:smt100Last week in Florida on vacation we were running out and got an engine alarm that says "Check Engine" on the smart craft gauge. There is no indication as what to check. The oil is fine, full level and not milky psi is normal. Shes not running hot at all temp is runnning normal water psi is normal. She is raw water cooled. I shut down immediately. All other fluids are normal. I didn't want to take any chances had a tow in. When I called SeaRay of Savannah they can't look at her for 3 weeks. I flushed the engine when we got home (dealer said it would be ok) with salt away, that I always do as I operate in saltwater most of the time. The alarm went off right away. SeaRay Dealer seems to think its a failed sensor. I'm baffeled. We bought the boat used from a private owner that took very good care of the boat and had all maintence records, only 139 hrs when we bought her. I have never owned an sterndrive before. The engine isn't making any unusual noises. Anyone have any ideas? Its a but frusterating having to wait 3 weeks to get her checked out!

This could be lots of things. Keep in mind that it doesn't need to be a Sea Ray dealer just to read the codes. Any Mercruiser service shop can at least read the codes and tell you what the computer is angry about.

Thanks for the info. I called an authorized mercruiser shop they are gonna check it out Tuesday. Hopefully he will have me up and runnning by the weekend.

Please update us with resolution.

I have same motor and boat.

THANKS!

What audible alarm did you receive? I found this info searching the form......"The audible alarm has three possible answers - one, a continuous burst that says you have oil or colling problems; second, a constant beeping that says your drive lube is low; and third, two bursts every minute that says you have a sensor failure."

I received a "check engine" alarm yesterday on my port 5.0mpi along with two short beeps and it would die in idle or run rough in idle. Research indicates that I have a bad idle air control valve.

I had same alarm and it was IAC - 15 minute DIY job after ordering part.

The alarm was two beeps. Got word from the mechanic today was definately the IAC. I'm also having him replace the waterpump impeller as well. I'm ordering a service manual for this boat today. May purchase a scan tool as well. $90 to read the code..But its worth it to get back on the water....Thanks to all for your assistance!
