Please help .Im thinking of buying a 2005 300 sundancer with twin 5.0- 350"s .I am afraid this will be underpowerd.A any one have any advice ? Thank You. :smt100

I haven't looked up the weight difference but my '07 290 (31' loa and 9500# has 5.0's) and it's good. 30-32 mph cruise @ 3500 and 43-44 maxed out.

Are you sure they are "5.0" 350's? 350's are 5.7L. Either way you should be good. 5.7's real good!

Only you can determine if it is underpowered for your use....go a sea trial.

The boat has never felt underpowered to me gets right up on plane even with full fuel, water, the family, and everything else we need for a weekend away

I have a friend with those engines in a 27' Formula, and it is OVER powered.

Along with what others have said, it is either Twin 5.0MPI or Twin 350MAG (or Twin 6.2MPI for that matter). The 5.0 has 260hp each, the 350 has 300hp each. Which is it?

As far as being underpowered, that all depends on how you plan to use it and what your expectations are. I have a dock neighbor with an 03 300DA with T-5.0MPI and have been on it many times. Personally, I would want a little more hp for that boat but he loves his 5.0s and they perform well for the boat and meet or exceed his needs.

My judgment is more based on the fact that I have the same engine/OD config (Twin-5.0MPI) on a boat with 8500lb dry weight which does very well but I am not sure I would want it on a boat that weighed 4000lb more dry but that is just me.

Bottom line- will the T-5.0MPIs put the boat on plane as quick like the 350MAG or 6.2MPIs, no- but they are likely very sufficient for the boat and probably what most would expect from a 34 foot cruiser. But just like someone else said- only you will know-do a Sea Trial....JMHO....

Good Luck!

I have a 2006 320 with twin 5.7L 350 cu.in. engines; you're mixing engine sizes in your post.

My 350s do just fine in the 320, tops out at 40 mph (gps); comes up on plane easily, even with 6+ people in the back; and cruises nicely anywhere between 3200 - 3900 rpm.

Fuel burn is 10 - 13 gallons / hr. / engine on plane.

Not sure how the 5.0 / 305 cu. in. engines would perform in the 300 but I'm guessing it would be satisfactory though you would likely be happier with bigger engines; if, in fact, they are 305s (5.0L) rather than 350s (5.7L).

Good luck and have fun.

I just purchased a 2004 300 Sundancer with Twin 5.0L and B3's. I've purchased the boat subject to a survey and sea trial however based on what I've read on this forum and speaking with numerous Sea Ray dealers who were not trying to sell me the boat, it should be fine. If your boating with 6+ people on a regular basis or running heavy currents you may want the bigger motors. I'm told the torque is its highest at 3,500 rpm which is where this boat runs. You can check out the Pacific Yachting Magazine web site. They tested at 2002 with twin 5.0L's & B3's loaded with fuel and water and 2 one board and it ran well. I agree with the others advice, get a sea trial to see if it suits your boating needs but from all my reasearch, it should run well.
