My boat will likely be listed by MarineMax next week. (I am about ready to move forward with this tough decision :smt089 .) Has anyone had experience with their brokerage services. Also if any has interest before it is listed, email me and I will tell you about the boat, otherwise after listing everything must go through the broker.

That stinks....

You know it is actually cheaper to get rid of your wife than your 500 DB. MarineMax will broker that also...

How good or how bad a job a broker does is to a large degree dependant upon his local market and the demand for the type boat you wish to buy or sell. The other factor to consider is how aggressive the listing broker is. If you list with a bright, personable hungry brkoer you will do better than you would with one who is fat and happy. Just because your friend happens to be a broker is not the best reason to list with him.

In general, MM stores have the tools to get the job done, but some stores tend to be new boat oriented while others are basically brokers. Try to find out which your local store is.

As far a that particular MM store, you really need to get recommendations from the local market.

There are also several ways to help yourself when you get ready to sell a boat........very nice boats sell quicker and for more money than average boats, as do exceptionally clean boats vs. average ones, a boat with a documented service history and all service up to date sells quicker and for more money than one whose maintenenace has been deferred for a while. Instead of stopping the maintenance because "I'm selling the boat anyway", you should probably start spending 2X your normal maintenance costs while the boat is listed for sale. Spend the money for a fresh detail and regular washings.

Finally, one of the most important things to do when you broker a boat is to make it easy to show. If the broker has to drive 2 hours, arrange for entrance to a gated community and deal with a gate guard just to show the boat, it likely will not see many prospective buyers. Try to arrange for a slip at the brokers location while the boat is listed. If the broker only needs to take a prospect out the back door, the boat will see some traffic.

Good luck with it..............

Frank,

Thanks for your advise & comments!

Gary,

You need to show me the math on that one and hope my wife doesn't read this!
