2005 390

4. The 390DA with diesels will burn about 22 gph at cruise......some one said the gas version burns 32 gph. Using a $4.25 cost per gallon as a basis, then diesel would have to cost $6.18 at the pump for the gas boat have an equivalent cost per hour of operation.....do the math.

You are being too kind. 32 gph in gas will not get you very far very fast in that boat. If you compare the speeds at those relative fuel flows, I think you'll find that the diesel would have to be up over 7.00 or 7.50 to break even.

I can't believe with the amount of knowledgeable boaters here participating on this topic that nobody has mentioned the obvious. Who cares about Gas versus Diesel?? The only REAL choice in that size boat is STERN DRIVES. They are faster, burn less fuel, quicker to plane, require less draft, etc, etc. And now, with Mercury's incredible "SeaCore" drives, you no longer have to worry about corrosion. Just drop them in the water and your good to go. Rinker has a 40 footer that only has outdrive options? Take notice Sea Ray! You could then take the 40-50K you would save by not buying a diesel 390DA and buy a few of these. http://rinkerboats.com/ec400.html I forgot to mention... they come with a blender and real air horn.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the advice. By the way I am in Norwalk Connecticut. I have decided to keep looking given that MM here in Ct still seems to believe its a sellers market.

The pursuit is half the fun..as is posting to this thread. There are some really good deals out there on lightly used boats, diesel and gas--if you are willing to ventue beyond Marine Max to brokerage boats, private party sales, etc.

I have seen a diesel 03 420 like mine for 250K. Now that is one heck of a deal.

Is that a gas blender or a sissy electric?

Best regards,

wow, what's going to happen when all the hot shots start getting IPS and zeus in their next boats? v-drives?? straight drives??? steering wheels???? :wow: then all the gas-a-holics with propellers, buicks, houses with aluminum siding and wall to wall shag carpet will really start feeling left out! :smt089:smt009

I hope my stern drive response didn't kill your thread. Sometimes my sarcasm get's the better of me. Of course stern drives are not an option. I do, however, like that gas powered blender that FC3 linked. Too bad they don't make a diesel version. You could recoup the initial cost's after only 18,547 frozen Margarita's and you would get most of your money back when you wanted to sell. (Yes, I did the math) Good luck with your search, Brian

Sorry Frank, that gas blender of yours is sissy compared to this gas blender.

I saw this thing run out at the Sturgis Bike Rally last year - the thing's hilarious - he can do like 6 pitchers at a time.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program....:smt024
