Twin 454 Horizon MAG MPI - replaced 2016
Been off the forum for a while after selling out 370AC. On the hunt for something a little smaller. Looking at an 05 270 Amberjack - just wondering if that single has enough ponies in it. I'm waiting on more pictures from the broker to confirm it's a 5.0 I would have thought it's a 350(5.7) mag rather than a 5.0. any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Just got the pictures, it's a 350 MAG MPI

I was going to say the 350 MAG with 300 hp was the smallest engine offered in that boat. There were 2 optional engines: an MX 6.2 for 320 hp and a 496 Mag for 375 hp. The 350 MAG and MX 6.2 both had freshwater cooled Horizon engines as options. Starting in 2007 the base engine became the MX 6.2.

I had the 350 MAG Horizon in a 2006 270 AJ for 12 years. It was not a speed demon, but I certainly found it a good performer for my needs. Optimum efficient cruise speed was about 24-25 mph. Most comfortable cruise was 26-27 mph burning 14-15 gph in favorable seas. Normal top end was about 33 gph, although after getting my bottom blasted I saw 36 mph, burning about 22 gph. On-plane speed was about 15-16 mph.

We used it as a family cruiser with 2 adults, 2 kids. Travelled a good bit in it but also did tubing, fishing, and just hanging out at anchor. Very nice boat, excellent and flexible layout especially with the optional back to back seating layout that I had. We had a camper canvas made that greatly improved the boat for us. Build quality was very good; engine access room was excellent with the single engine.
