Quick question - my alarm (Smartcraft) suddenly went off after all day on the water. Engine seems to be running just fine - not any hotter than it always runs (170ish). Any ideas?

Gear lube bottle sensor could do it.
Did you toggle through the info and see if it says anything?
What is your water pressure?

Did it always run at 170°?
The reason I ask is that with a 160° thermostat, raw water cooled, I see 156-160° temps all day long.

Three things make the alarm go off. Low gear lube bottle (unplug either of the two leads going to it to silence and troubleshoot that as the cause) high engine temp, insufficient lake water pressure feeding the engine driven water pump.

Not on OP's boat with a 555 ecm. Could be many more things

I was reading out of my manual for my 2005 240 SD.

Couldn,'t turn it but you get the idea about the 555 ecm

Thanks for all the GREAT info. It was a tad bit low on drive lube. I filled it and no more alarm!
