I am stumped.. I need to get the half tank of gas out of my 185 because a little over a year ago we had a baby and our boating has been limited over the last two years so the gas in it is two years old, that makes it 3 years old next summer!

Anyways, I bought a drill motor pump and fabbed up an 8 foot 3/8 ID hose. I run about 6 foot of the hose into the filler neck of the boat and the tube stops. I pull it out and its dry! No matter what I do I cant find gas with this hose.. Is there a screen or water separator on the filler neck? Any help appreciated, I am stumped..

Thanks

I think that tube welded on top of the tank has right angle bend.
you could remove fuel sender and remove fuel that way.
another way to remove fuel - instead of pumping it out, apply compressed air to fuel fill and drain it using fuel hose disconnected from motor (sometimes you have to block fuel vent)

Thanks, sounds like I have to remove the sender.. Thanks for the help. Any tips I might need pulling the sender?

just 5 hex head screws, don't drop them inside tank!
and sender fits only one way, so I recommend to mark correct position before removal

Sorry to state the obvious but make sure the area is well ventilated and be very, very cautious in your approach.

Maybe not an option but why not fill the tank to the brim with as much fresh gas as you can and take the boat out for a good long and hard run to burn it all off.

The highs are:

1) you get a fun day of boating
2) no need to get into the messy business of draining the fuel tank
3) no need to dispose of the old fuel
4) 2 year old gas mixed with a good quantity of fresh fuel should do no harm to anything.

I wish I could, here in Michigan we are pretty damn cold right now to be out on the lake for more then a few minutes!!
