2004 Regal 2665 vs Sea Ray 260 DA

Why are you looking at other brands of boats ??.
Just stay with a Sea Ray or you could go the darkside and buy a Baysinker. :smt043

I like Regal boats. My 2 biggest 'beefs' with the 260 (and 240) is the miniature world mid-cabin and the need to constantly adjust the tabs to keep a level ride. The Regal has a great mid cabin by the looks of it and I haven't heard of / read any reports of them feeling 'tippy'. The helm looks nice and practical. That extended swim platform rocks! The seating I don't really like... I'd feel cholostrophobic with the girlfriend sitting beside me all day... and what if you're out with the boys? That'd be so wrong! So you'd have everyone behind you and on the starboard side. I don't like the aft seating either... the transom door and seat look flimsy. I wouldn't want my boy sitting back there under way (I'm over-protective I know). The larger seat of the Sea Ray also doubles as a transom storage hatch for your fenders (which is a fabulous feature). The Regals interior looks great but the Sea Ray cabinets are nicer with their flush fitting doors. I like the 2665s big deck hatch. Those let in a lot of light making that interior brighter than the 260s.
As for bling; the lines of a 260 are frickin' beautiful... it's a much much better looking boat than the Regal.
I like the 260 and not just because I'm a Sea Ray owner.

All very good points John, thanks. I would have to agree with you on pretty much everything, based on the photos anyway. It's worth a look anyway.

I'm sure it is. The Regal is definitely a nice boat too.
One last thing... I just noticed the cockpit carpets in the Regal... maybe have a look at the quality of those if you're going to check it out... ?

wayne whats wrong with a bayliner.. my 2 priyer boat were bayliner and I loved them the boat I was going to get was a 29 ft maxum (bayliner) I was lucky to find a sea ray, but the maxum was just as nice. Baysinker darkside is not that bad..and I believe I read somewere bayliner bought sea ray... never the less your the man wayne!

Brunswick does own Sea Ray and Bayliner, but that does NOT make them equals.

I am not brand loyal, there are several brands I would consider....Bayjunker and Maxum are not on that list.

The Regal you posted is a nice looking boat, but is way overpriced for its options and year. (IMHO - $50K for this boat and trailer is about $10K overpriced... - I sold a similiar boat about 18 months ago - newer and with much better options).

The more desireable options would be a generator, radar arch, and larger enginer. You may not be happy with the performance of a 5.7 in this size boat.

Basically, Regal makes a nice boat, but you need to decide if you will be happy with that boat. Since switching back to Sea Ray, I have been very happy. Personally, these boats are too small for my family of four - but you have to make that call.

Good Luck!!!!

I'm a frequent lurker on this site... I really enjoy the intellegent conversation and witty insight. Nice group of boaters.

On the subject at hand, I personally prefer the lines and simple elegence of a SeaRay. I have friends that own Regal, mostly because the dealer is the big player where I boat. One such friend owns a 42'er and has had nothing but trouble with dealer and corporate cooperation. I'm also not overly fond of their 'fluted' styling, which reminds me of Pontiac as compared to other GM vehicles. Just a little too overstated imho. Nevertheless, both are fine boat brands with a loyal following.

And just a head's up... there are some of us Bayliner owners out here that absolutely love our boats. I'm on my third and they've all treated me very well. Then again, I am a lake boater so cannot speak to their longevity in more open water environments. For me it always comes down to taking care of what I own. That being said, I'm not overly brand conscious, but stick with what treats me well within my budget.

Wayne: Weren't you a big contributor on the Bayliner site? You seem familiar. Reading your many Bayliner bashes -- you seem to have a chip on your shoulder.

I read somewere bayliner bought sea ray
Thats where you are wrong !!, Sea Ray bailed out Baysinkers and afew other brands !! . :smt001
When all the poor folks couldn't afford boats.
Do your homework on this and you'll see. :smt001

Sea Rays were still selling in bad times Why is THAT !!!.

I had an 06 260 and was not happy with the ride, too much time spent working the tabs. Nice boat, just a little more work than it should be driving it. Let me know if you have any questions, we boat on the St Croix also.

Thought I read somewhere that Crownline filed Chapter 11....None the less I love the looks of the Crowns....seems like may be underpowered for a 270 though..no??

So did GM, and I love my truck.

Not sure, but it can't be any worse than a 260 DA with a 5.0

I think 40 MPH is plenty fast for a boat this size. Hell, I usually never go more than 25 MPH anyway. I am never in a hurry when I am boating. :smt001

Before you buy a Crownline, compare a 10 year old Crown to a 10 year old Sea Ray. There is a difference and it gets more and more noticeable as time goes on.

I think Regal and Crownline are near identical quality with styling differences... love the porn pad on the Crown! lol
Here's where I take a hit I'm sure but what impactg said has merit. IMHO (and his) Bayliner has delivered a good product at a decent price... possibly the most bang for the buck. They are (sort of) the plain jane Chevy of the boating world... not a lot of frills or big bling but good value for your dollar. I'd buy one... I think a lot of people just hop on the band wagon with the Bayliner comments. A Regal or Crownline is only marginally better. No, I don't think... and they're not the same quality as a Sea Ray but if you're on a budget and you need or would like a 28' sport cruiser and the Bayliner is affordable and the Sea Ray isn't... go for the Bayliner!
Where I am in the salt... you can't help but notice that lesser quality boats do require more t.l.c. to keep them pristine. The salt has its way with window frames, railings and hardware where as it doesn't on the Sea Rays.
Every boat is better than no boat...

A 2004 for $60K................way overpriced in my opinion. Compare that price to 2004 Sea Ray 260DAs. Most of them are not in that price range.

No doubt. That is why you make a much lower offer. Anybody can "ask" whatever they want for a boat, it doesn't mean they are going to get it.

My boat is worth about $20K, that plus $30K = $50K, which is about what that boat is worth based on my initial research.

What is the name of your boat?

My previous 260 is called R Secret, we didn't change the name from the original owners.

My current boat is Liquid Limo.

Note - For $50K, you should be able to find a 2005 or 2006 Sea Ray 260. I sold my 2006 260 for around $45K, maybe less (need to look up) last year, doesn't have AC or generator.

Here is an 07 in Rogers for $57K, sure you could get them down to $50K. It's a brokarge boat, no sales tax!
