Father-in-law and I took a 350 magnum mpi out of a 268 (that was put in new six years ago). While taking the engine out we had to cut a ground wire that got "hung up".
Now we cannot for the life of us find where it went to:huh:.
We installed this engine in the another 268 of the same year. Would really appreciate it if some has this engine to look where this wire goes. The cut off end is a #14 gauge attached to the port stern side manifold bolt(the #10 gauge is ok).
I have looked at wiring diagrams but does not help. We are having a problem after engine warms up of hard starting and will not go more than 1500 rpms after warm up.
Thanks for your help.

Are you SURE it is a ground wire ?
If it is, just ground it. Ground is ground no matter where you ground it. I know that sounds silly, but grounding points are electrically the same. Ground is a reference point, so if you have a negative ground system [which you assuredly do] the resistance from the engine block to the negative terminal on the battery is less than the capacity of most Ohm meters to measure.

Good luck and Semper Fi.

Thank you Captain for the reply:smt038
This wire is on the manifold bolt from factory, black, only about 18"left after we cut it, do not know where this ground went.

I just pulled an 03 350 MAG out of my boat a couple weeks ago and if i remember correctly the 2 grounds from the back of the block were the main ground to the battery and a ground to the transom assembly.

But if the main ground is not connected, obviously your motor wouldnt start. the one to the transom assembly shouldnt bother engine performance.

I will take a better look at the engine later to see if i see anything else.
