I bought a used 340DA with the premium stereo system in April. It has the premium stereo system with Tuner with Sirius and 6 CD changer in the main electrical panel in the cabin, also a remote on the cockpit dash connected to that unit. Second stereo DVD/CD player in the cabin above the main LCD panel TV. Mainly to play DVDs on the TV it would seem but also plays single CD and FM.

Here's the problem, everything works and plays from the main stereo/CD changer in the electric panel on the cockpit speakers but not in the cabin. I have two speaker switches just inside the companion way, cabin and cockpit, I have both turned on. (Wiring diagram refers to them as mute switches)
When playing the second stereo DVD player connected to the LCD panel TV I get sound in the cabin from the tuner, DVD and Cds like I would expect through the 4 sound ceiling speakers.

Million dollar question, shouldn't I be able to have the cabin speakers also play music from the main stereo with the 6 CD changer on the 4 ceiling speakers?

Have tried everything including contacting 2 Sea Ray dealers, not one has a clue.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I think you need to play around with the output setup on the Clarion XMD3 (assuming that's what you have). I recall having a similar problem. The head unit defaults to one set of outputs being off, or sub, or something like that.

Good luck.

Will do, I believe it is an XMD3, I played around quite a bit but the manual leaves a lot to be desired so could well have missed something. At one point I changed one setting on some filter and the cockpit speakers were not playing either, was able to back track and undo what I had done.
Did all my own work from A - Z for 11 years on my old boat, 270DA, but can't get 4 speakers to play on this one, go figure.

Thanks for your input.

I think I have the same set up in my boat. In the cabin, there is a farenheit cd/dvd/am/fm head unit with a sub and four speakers powered by a Clarion amp(located under the v birth). For the cockpit, there are 4 polk component speakers, and a momo 10 inch sub all connected to 2 Clarion amps(located under the salon sofa) and the XMD3 head unit. Unfortunately, these two systems work independently of each other. If you have the sub in the cabin, you have both the premium cabin system as well as the premium cockpit system. The wiring diagrams in the owners manual should help clear up any confusion.

My bad, I didn't see that you were getting sound from the TV through the cabin speakers. If that is the case and your amps are located under the salon couch, it is easy to fix. You need to run a set of RCA cables from the Clarion stereo to the amplifier that runs the cabin speakers. It is a fairly easy run to make. I removed the drawer under the elecrical panels as well as the AC panel to facilitate access to this area. Once this is done, you should be able to use the fader to raise/ lower levels in the cabin/cockpit.

If your amps are near each other, an easier solution depends on whether or not you have RCA outputs on the amp that is driving the cockpit speakers. If so, just run a set of cables to the other amp from there. You will lose the ability to fade from the head unit, but you will still probably be able to "mute" one or the other from the switches by the cabin door (assuming they are hooked up appropriately to the remote leads on the amps).

Once you do this you would need to listen to the TV through its speakers, of course.

Teekster, actually not the TV, just when I play a DVD on the separate DVD player I get the sound through the cabin speakers. On just TV it only plays out of the TV speaker. Seems I could wire the Clarion Stereo up to the cabin amp but I’m guessing I would I need to install some type of switch to control which input is going into the amp, TV/DVD or the Clarion Stereo? The cabin amp in under the front bed, have not found the cockpit amp yet.

Jonny D, I think it’s set up as you said, two discrete systems. Kind of dumb, this nice Stereo with Sirius and 6 CD changer but can’t play it in the cabin. Funny thing is the wiring diagram does not show the TV DVD player at all, seems if they slipped that in they just said the heck with the Clarion Stereo and only ran the DVD/CD unit output to the cabin amp. I was hoping they wired the Clarion to the DVD play but it doesn’t bring up any Aux inputs.

Thinking I may run some wire from the Clarion and add a switch. Thanks for all the input, let me know if you guys think of anything else.

First time on the forum, what a great resource.

My sub is located foward of the sofa, in the seat base under the hanging locker. The grill has carpet on it.You need to figure out what configuration you have. I have both premium cockpit/cabin systems, and they are independent of one another. A buddy of mine has only the cockpit upgrade and his cabin works off the xmd3. The head unit above HIS salon tv is just a dvd player.

Nope! This is the way how they used to install "premium" system! Take "regular" system add additional head unit without any major rewiring. You could correct this if your setup allow. If your dvd/cd player has unused "input" you could run audio cable from stereo with cd changer "line-out" to dvd/cd player "line-in"

Sea Ray does not really have any AV guys working at the factory. The base systems are severely underpowered. ow I see that they can't even hook up the premium systems properly. These are ridiculously expensive upgrades. The should be done better!

The CD changer is hooked up via a Cenet cable. There is no line in/out to the CD changer to use. You could just hook the DVD output to the Aux in on the XMD3. Use the cables currently coming from the DVD player to go to the 2nd set of outputs on the XMD3 (You already know they go to the cabin amplifier). There are really many variations here, depending on how you want to use the system.

Consider this: If you don't have the premium cabin system, you surely have the embarrassing "amplifier" that my boat had. It is located behind the DC panel and is about the size of a cigarette pack. Now might be a good time to upgrade if you go that far.

I ran down my boat last night, I have both premium cabin and cockpit systems. Since I have only played with the DVD testing out this speaker deal I never realized that ‘carpet’ grill was actually for the cabin sub. (Thanks Johnny D)

Teekster, I think I like your idea to run the DVD player output into the XMD3 and use the XMD3 to control what plays in the cabin. That seems to be the ‘cleanest’ option to straighten out what Sea Ray didn’t take the time to do right. The only thing I would lose there is the ability to play a DVD in the cabin and have music from the main system play in the cockpit, not a problem for me personally. I mostly spend my time enjoying the water, either rafted up with friends or hanging at our local waterfront watering hole that most always has a slip open to day dock for lunch or dinner. My friends all think I’ve lost my head but I’ve put 40 hours on the engines in the first two months. But I was in my 94 270DA for 11 years so running this boat is like a dream come true.

I guess after a while I may care about watching a DVD, but haven’t yet. Not having the CD changer or Sirius in the cabin is the bigger issue for me and now have a plan to fix that. I love the boat so far but have to agree the factory could use some real AV guys.

I have to say I have learned more here in one day than in 6 weeks dealing with the clowns that sold me the boat, a Formula dealer who had taken the boat in on trade. Or even the two Sea Ray dealers local that I have spoken with about this. So a very sincere thank you to all.

DVD Player

I think I have the same DVD Player. But when I put in a DVD it spins then says 'input' then after about a min it spits the DVD out. I was wondering if I was missing something , have you seen this before?

No have not encountered that on my front unit, it's a Pioneer. It plays DVD or music CD but says something different somewhere if a music CD but is still in DVD mode.

Now my rear DVD player for the 10" drop down TV/DVD won't read a DVD or a CD, it is supposed to do both. It's a KEC unit, all the remotes and headphones were still wrapped in plastic so don't think it was ever used.
