Hey guys,

I am seriously looking at a 04 300 DA with 740 hours, twin 5.0 Merc's with a purchase price of $49,000.00. Any opinions?

What kind of condition is it in? Saltwater? All of these make a HUGE difference...I am up in Minnesota and I know one sold for around $55,000, it was SUPER clean, no genny and it was a 2003. Got pics? A link?
 
Which engines, which options, canvas included, trailer included? NADA guides says 50k for the low retail with nothing checked. Have a full boat and engine survey done. Could be a good deal, could waiting to sink. Survey will tell you what you need to know.
 
I'd consider 49k a good deal on that boat. I'd still request a full survey at the sellers expense of your choosing, and ask to see all the maintenance records. Bilge looked clean from what I could tell, those bravos are nice and shiny, with some corrosion on the right had one, I'd make sure they pressure test that one and drain a little drive oil and look for water...typical survey stuff, but overall, if the survey turns up nothing major I'd consider it a good price.
 
I had that same year boat with the 5.7l engines. That's a great year for that boat. Has Smartcraft but doesn't have the troubling cool fuel 3 fuel cooler. It has the more stable cool fuel 2. Hours are still low enough to get a good 15-20 more years out of them (averaging 40-50 hours a year).

Very good price if it checks out.

I would have to get 2 different surveys correct? I am also going to call a Sea Ray dealer and have them run the HID to see if any claims were made against the boat. I am making notes for the mechanical side of things so I make sure they check out. I want to make sure I make the right purchase.
 
A survey done at the seller's expense is worth exactly what you pay for it. Nothing. You want the surveyor working for you, not the seller. The price on the boat sounds VERY good - but hire your own surveyor and pay for it yourself. A check with a Sea Ray dealer can tell you if certain work was done to the boat, but if the answer is "nothing", that shouldn't be construed as 'no issues'. Sometimes things may not have been entered into the system and not all work is done at a Sea Ray dealer.
 
FYI, it looks like the TV in the cabin has been replaced by a pretty translucent door. Unless there is a small, old TV behind that door. Also, they bored a hole in the door to the battery switches/breakers on the cockpit. Might want to find out why they did that. Check the cabin door and see how well it slides. My trucks and slides were all beat up and didn't work right when I bought mine in 2011. I posted some pics in the 300DA forum of the detailed effort needed to tear out the port side of the cockpit in order to get access to remove and replace the tracks and trucks.

Great eye on the battery switch door(note taken). I was wondering about the glass door myself. I have seen people mount a large TV over the aft cabin but I will check and also look into the door sliders. I am having them quote all new canvas and eisenglass to possibly work into the deal.
 
Little update: I put a deposit on this boat pending inspection/survey which I have set for next Saturday. The canvas needs to be replaced (per the salesman) so I am trying to work into the original price.
