2004 260 "never in water?"

When I bought my 260DA a little over a year ago, there was A Sea Ray dealer in North Carolina that had a brand new never titled 2004 260DA to sell. I had my dealer call them obstenbibly to buy the boat from them to sell it to me. It would have been cheaper than my current 260DA was but the price difference was not have been great enough to make it a smart deal. He still had that boat up until about 6 months ago when it stopped showing up on his web site.

If you are interested in the boat, get the HIN# and call Sea Ray Customer Service. Explain the circumstances and se if they can confirm the story. They will know if a dealer has lost new inventory because he's in financial trouble.

A real concern is what if any factory warranty you have with the boat. If it still has its MSO, there shouldn't be a question, but if the MSO has been processed and a title issued to an owner or to the dealer as a demo, than you may have a problem with warranty.

Looks like it was used. Still, 31K with a genny and 6.2's is a great price. Wonder what the reserve is?
It does look used to me. Frank had a good point though I never thought about-warranty!

It is not a used boat. Besides the seller saying it has zero hours, there are several other things I see in the pictures that convince me it is a brand new boat.

The only problem (besides the possibility of warranty issues) is if you can't buy it for the same price as any other lightly used 2004, you are probably throwing money down the drain because if you put 100 hours on it in the first year of ownership, it is worth no more than any other used 100 hour Sea Ray out there that is in good condition no matter the fact the others have been in use longer. That was the problem I had when considering the purchase of the new 2004 I found. It just wasn't priced competitively with the used market so I passed on it even though I could have bought it for less money than my current 260DA.

It will be interesting to see what it finally sells for though.

I don't think it's used either. I do see some corrosion on the battery terminals and trim zincs as well as the water heater t/p valve. Probably attributed to the proximity to the water. The Generator and upgraded engine are pluses. As long as the warranty is intact I don't see a problem. Interesting to see what the reserve is.

I don't care how used it is or isn't, its being sold as a new, never sold boat. If something has happened in the dealer's relationship with Sea Ray or in the way the boat itself has been handled that falls under one of the warranty contingencies....it is a limited warranty...... the original warranty may have been cancelled.

The time to know that is before you write a check not after you discover some serious structural issue that the manufacturer refuses to repair.

The boat is in Ohio. The proximity to the water will not effect the zincs, etc., unless it has actually been in the water.

That is the worst looking ER on a new boat i've ever seen. That looks used to me, even the belt is warn. in the pick of the gen, what's with the muck in the corner of the bilge? It looks like the hatch was left open all year long so it could rain on everything in there.

Well. . . I know that there is ONE thing on my 280SS (the drain on the back of the U-Seat) that drains into the engine room. It is hard to tell from the photos the belt condition. But I think my belts that were Old, Old, Old, looked better.

And who in their right mind is going to pluck 50K+ on an Ebay auction? That's simply crazy talk.

Wonder if that guy asking for 100K for a big dancer with "easy to fix" cosmetic damage and "properly pickled engines" every sold the boat. . .

Nice find Bridog. That's the same boat! They are both in OH and identically equipped. Look at the pictures. Have a look at the cabin shot. Notice the lights on either side of the bulkhead mirror are in the same position. Also note that the cushion just forward of the galley has been pulled away, and the table is in the same slightly cocked position. Also note that the igntion key float is the same color.

Charlie..............the interior fabrics are different so they must be different boats.

Looks to me like they are the same with just different lighting..........look at the carpet protector under the table. There is only one color Sunbrella used.

I went ahead and asked the ebay seller if that was the same boat as the Yatchworld add. We will see if he responds.

does the cushion always pushdown like the cushion on the left?

You may be right Frank. The color of the fridge vent is very different too in the two pictures and we all know that isn't the case.:smt038

Buyer Beware on this one.

I looked at the ebay sellars other items and yatchworld sellers other items and they are the same:

2000 Grady White
1999 Silverton 322
2000 Regal 2960
The list goes on!

Question is why does one say never in water yet the other add says the boat has 30 hours on it. Is it possible to have 30 hours yet not be in water?

This is not different than any other boat salesman or broker. His job is to sell you the boat, not do your due diligence or volunteer negative facts. Would you be as interested if, instead of "never in the water" the eBay description said: "This unsold 260DA sat around a boat dealers lot for 2 years with every salesman and mechanic personally using it on the weekends until the dealer had the boat forclosed when he defauted on his floor plan?"

I'll offend a lot of folks with this one, but if the average broker or salesman's mouth is moving, you better confirm what he's telling you.
