Boat Info
2003 SeaRay 280 Sundancer
Engines
Twin 5.0MPI, Bravo 3
3.0 Westerbeke Gen
We are looking to do a Twin Outboard Conversion .
Remove both 5.0MPI / Bravo 3 and have either Mercury / Yamaha or Suzuki's 250's with Bracket Installed.
Our 2003 Sundancer 280 has the Bolt on swim deck so a custom Bracket can be made.

We are in Fort Lauderdale,FL.

Any Ideas or people that have done this before ?

The swim platform and transom on your 280 is not rated to support a single 250 horse outboard, let alone two. Those buggers are 600+ pounds each!

One idea - if you want outboards, sell the ole Sundancer and buy a boat that already has them.

I'm assuming you're referencing the "bolt on" platform because you can take it off? If you meant to bolt a custom bracket TO the platform... that's a hard "no".

But assuming you're taking it off...

The transom is not built with OB's in mind - sterndrives actually apply less stress to a transom and stringers than an OB will. So you'll need to beef up the transom laterally (the bracket will help with this, but you still need more on the inside) and also tie it down (triangulate) into the stringers. How much you need to do is beyond my scope to be able to recommend on a forum. But anything can be done - it just depends on how much money you want to put into this project vs buying a different boat that's already setup like you want.

you can look at youtube ,look up SEA MONKEY MARINE , they did a 270 Sundancer

There’s a 280 or 290 dancer by me with twin outboards on a bracket. I keep hoping to pass when someone is outside

I gotta say I admire your courage. I would worry about resale though. I think you would end up with a pig in a poke.
