Does anyone know if a OBDII scanner can be used on a 2003 merc cruiser 5.0 260 HO engine?

You are going to need a Merc Scan tool. If you have an 03 260HP 5.0, it should be an MPI engine with an ECM555. I believe a company called Rinda Technologies has a reasonly priced handheld unit similiar to a convential OBDII scan tool that will work. They also have a higher end software. I don't have personal experience with either tool but have heard good things about them. The Merc Branded scanners are very pricy and pop up on ebay from time to time. Probably be best to go with the Rinda tool so you will have support. They have compatability guides on their site so you can get the right harness adaptor.

Thanks. Going to check out a motor and drive tomorrow and have a OBD scanner. Thought I could bring it if the engine was compliant but I guess not.
