New 240 HP merc cruiser, Alpha 1!
Hello all. I went to look at a 2003 Weekender this past Saturday. It is at a Marine Max dealer, they took the boat in trade. The owner moved up and bought another Sea Ray. It has the 260 hp merc cruiser, bravo 3 (dual props). It has 160 hours. The boat is very clean. I could find no problems with the boat and I am very impressed.

Does anyone know of any concerns I should check out with this model??
Thanks,
Steve

Hey Steve,
During the process of purchasing our ’06 225WE, I searched this site and the net and I could not find anything that would be a specific concern.
We have had our boat now for one season and are very satisfied with the purchase. The 225WE is a very versatile boat by doing various roles very well. I.e. cruising, water sports and fishing.
Does Marine Max or any other boat dealer for that matter, offer any sort of warranty or guarantee?
I would recommend getting the boat independently surveyed. I’m sure it would give you piece of mind as it did for me.
Good Luck,
Steve

This is a great boat that handles very well. I would say get the 5.0MPI at a minimum. That is the most common engine. I have seen a few 350MAG and one 6.2MPI but the 5.0MPI does fine. The Bravo3 does help out of the hole. I also have been on a 5.0TKS Alpha1 and could tell a difference.

In fact, I know someone who has a real nice one for sale right now. Hint Hint

I moved up to a 280 from a 225WE. The 225 is a great boat, alot of room, both in the cabin and cockpit for a 22' boat. You won't be disappointed...

I would not waste my money on a survey with a Marine Max trade in. I would rather put my money in warrentee. I would also have one of my annal retentive friends look it over for me, and make a punch list for them to fix... May sure you have them throw in a full tank of gas, and bottom paint. Where do you plan on keeping the boat...

Kinda did all those things already. We just can't get together on price, I came down on my trade but they didn't come down much on their asking. I am looking at a 1999 215 in the next week.

You'll be happier with the added on swimstep and nicer appointed interior of the 225WE. Be patient. Do you have sales tax in your state? If so, consider that you'll only pay tax on the difference between the two values of the boats. I'm not sure if that helps your position.

Don't give up on the 225... I would consider selling you boat yourself, that is probably the end where they are beating you up...
