Hello everyone,

I have been busy restoring my 2002 340, and have been wondering just where Sea Ray put the Galvanic Isolator. My parts manual shows it on the forward engine room bulkhead, just to starboard of the main 12 VDC breaker panel. But I don't have one there....

Did Sea Ray install these on every 340, or were they an option at the time? I don't want to spend a lot of time looking for something, when somebody here surely knows where it is, or even if there was one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I don't remember if it was when i was replacing my shore power connection or my dock side water connection/regulator. But i had to remove the panel that they are both mounted to inside the transom locker. That is when i accidentally found mine, it was mounted behind that panel. Don't know if that is where yours is but it's just a thought.

Many thanks to you both - looks like I'll be taking apart the transom locker too. That's ok, I took everything else apart anyway....

But if I take apart this one last thing on this boat, and you guys are wrong, then somebody owes me a pair of new 8.2 Mercs....

Masterfab,
My boat is a 1997 but, my GI is behind my microwave oven! I found it while running my Satellite wires!

George,

GM quit supplying the 8.1L block last year that was used by Merc, Volvo and Crusader. The replacement is the 8.2L resurrected from the past. The old 8.2L had some issues that hopefully will get corrected, the 8.1L was a very good marine block and engine from Merc, Volvo and Crusader. The 8.2L is not supplied by GM I understand. GM is supplying the 6.2L which does not have the torque of the 8.1L, and thus not as good for marine use.

I can see it now...picture the Sea Ray working floor, where there are boats in various states of construction. Suddenly, over the loud speaker comes, "May I have your attention please, stop what you are doing. Today we are installing Galvanic Isolators, so drop what you are doing, and install the isolator where you are sitting at the moment......thank you"

Scott,
LOL!!:smt043

My micro is actually located between the port side AC recepticles and my breaker panel so it's the perfect spot for those suckers!!

I had the same problem locating my Isolators, went as far as contacting Searay as to there location. Remove your microwave, you will find them mounted on a piece of plywood on the left. your boat has two one for each power cord. Mine had loose/poor connections at the crimp on connectors. Just for the record Searay gave me the wrong location for them.

+1 behind the microwave. Makes sense to have them closest to the point of entry. Found them completely by accident because I needed access to an additional circruit for cabin heat.
