I have a 02 310da. (vdrives & westerbeke genset) I had to replace the battery charger (again). The new Promariner is a little different and they recommended upgrading to a 30A 3 bank. After installation the "#2 converter" breaker kept tripping after a few seconds. After a while, trying to isolate a circuit that was causing problems, it stayed in. My question is: what are the 2 (#1 & #2 converter breakers) under the cockpit sink? What do they control? What does the ac converter breaker in the cabin control? Why have 3 breakers controlling charging? Why not label them as battery charging and not as converters? Is any human without a neutron microscope able to read the wiring schematics in the manual? The final question is: Why do boats have to break so often? Thanks all. Any input helps!

The term converter was use in conjunction with battery charger because of the units operation. The unit actually converts AC power to DC hence the use of converter. As for the breakers I believe that these are the inline breakers that are used as overcurrent protection from the charger to the batteries. If these are not sized 10 amps higher then the output of the charger they will be tripping often. Give me a call if I can further assist you. 603-766-7603.

I Have the same boat minus the generator...

Those 2 big knob breakers under the cockpit deck sink as i understand it control all the D/C power on the boat.We turn them off when leaving the boat because as i understand it the batteries getting a better charge with them off. the A/C breaker in the cabin as i understand it is your battery charger from the A/C shore power to your D/C batteries.
Boats break because there fragile and very tempermental.
