2002 280DA

I had a 2002 280 with the single 8.1 496 and air but no gen. I paid $85k for it new and ran it two years then sold it for $85k. Was a great boat. To install a gen you slide the water tank over on the shelf to make room and balance the load. Westerbek makes a 3.5kw set that is cheaper and light weight.

Be very careful you DO NOT buy one with the single 6.2 liter engine as it is just not near enough power.

Mine ended up at LOTO.

Yep, I have purchased 9 new boats in my life and several used ones. This is the only boat I have ever owned that I have been able to get all of my money back out of less taxes and fees. It really held its value well. It was a 2002 model purchased in the late summer of '01. I wanted an '01 but they were out of stock and the dealer offered me an '02 for the same money. I sold it two years later in the fall of '03 and bought an '04 300 Sundancer that I most certainly got my kiester handed to me when I sold that one just last June. I had some silly options like twin 6.2 liter engines that raised the used value nothing over the 350 mags but cost around $5k more if memory serves correctly. I think I ended up loosing $35k on that 300 but when I bought it I thought I would own it for 5-6 years instead of just two.

Well, looks like we are going to pull the trigger on a 02 280DA. Agreed on the price and have placed a deposit on it waiting for survey and sea trail. Hopefully I can get down this weekend to take care of it all, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have heard that there are different types of surveys; complete marine survey or a pre-sale insepction which basically includes all the mechanic testing but that's it. Look forward to joining the family.

our 280 lives on our trailer when not in use. We trailer everywhere. We pull with a cummins diesel.... in our Dodge. Diesel is the only way to fly when pulling a load of this size. The boat really pulls nicely.... much better than I expected.
