Unsure will fill in later
Hello, I just bought my first Sea Ray, a 2001 Sundancer 380. The upholstery is pretty bad. I have an estimate to repair for $5600, but that doesn’t include the captain’s chair. They said it’s beyond repair and has to be replaced. I need some help finding one. Preferably a used one, but if I have to, a new one.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Tim

Congrats!! A 2001 380 is very desirable, so doing a good job will be worth it when/if you go to resell.

$5600 for all the entire cockpit doesn't sound unreasonable. What is wrong with the helm seat? The hardware is pretty expensive, but the upholstery should be easily replaced.

Get another shop to quote. There are some good threads on here if you're looking for some design ideas.

If you're handy, redo it yourself. If you're not handy, you will be by the time your done with this boat!:) There are threads on "how to" recover seats here as well.

Unless the frame of the seat is rotten it can be recovered. Its a hard job and they may just not want to do it. Look for 2nd opinion.
100%….. the skeleton is plastic with foam and vinyl on top of that…. Unless the plastic frame is cracked it’s an easy recover. I did mine….. half of all doctors are below average. Get another opinion

I did both of mine as well. I replaced all four armrest pads and both the seat cushions. The back rest cushions are the only other potential perishable item on the seats. If those are ok then it can be recovered. The big curved section with the arm rest can be tricky. Have to get the vinyl shape just right and use a lot of staples. It’s a tedious job. Four separate backrest sections plus the bolster and the seat cushion. Took me four days per chair but it was my first upholster job ever. I can see where someone would say “I’m not doing that”.

Where are you located?

Thank you. The folks that gave me the estimate said that the helm seat is beyond repair.

If he's referring to the seats and vinyl work, I think you need to get another quote, its all rebuildable/repairable/recoverable in the right shop. If he's referring to the pedestal and metal hardware, that's another issue. Parts are available but are expensive as are new helm seats.
