I was hoping someone else has had this issue and solved it. Whenever it rains my cockpit rugs get saturated. The water comes in from the gunwalls onto the steps and then to the deck. I have narrowed it down to:

1. When we bought the boat it did not have cockpit canvas and we had it made. Is the new canvas not properly made and snapped in the incorrect position as it seems to funnel water in. Can anybody confirm if the snaps and flaps are in the correct positions.

2. Space between the side panel and the step. I had caulked it and left a gap at the bottom which I assumed was needed to drain excess water. While it was raining I observed that water cascades from the hole at the bottom. I temporarily blocked it to see what would happen and the water was as expected the water stopped significantly especially when I rearranged the canvas flap. The question is if I seal the gap where will the water go? Could a drain hole be clogged underneath the side panel? Does anyone else with a 400DB have this sealed up?

Thank you to all.

Sincerely,

Very Soggy on Long Island!

Hey there. My snaps and flaps are in the same spot as yours. I was on the boat on Sunday, and it was POURING! I had my cockpit canvas up, and I was getting a lot of water in the cockpit in the same location you are describing. I also have that same gap you are referring to. I believe that is necessary to drain the water as you stated. I THINK that if you plug that up, the water will have no where to go except through the vent holes that will lead down into the bilge. And we don't want that to happen either.

I'm not sure what the solution is. Or if there is one. But I can tell you that my experience is similar to yours.

I don't have carpet in my cockpit, so the water just drains out the back. However, my Infinity flooring I just bought has shipped today, so that should be in in about a week. From what I hear, that doesn't absorb water like traditional carpet does.

Good luck.

Cockpit canvas does not seal out the weather. Simple as that. Here in the coastal south no one has cockpit canvas. We keep it as an open patio and like it that way. We ditch carpet and go with vinyl flooring products like Infinity or just the factory gelcoat deck.

Your canvas is not what the factory sets up. if it were you would be connected to the snaps that are to the right of your canvas. I have the original factory canvas and it has rubber seals that go down the edge where the snaps are that are not used in your photo and around the step edge. it's not perfect but when up there isn't much water that comes in unless it's a really hard rain.
