For Sale: 2001 Sea Ray 280 Sundancer, “Seashelle Key”, $59,000. This model came loaded will all options when new.

The work that has been done to this boat since 2020 is listed below. Please read all the work done to recondition this boat at David Wade Marine, Baton Rouge, La, and you see why this boat is worth the asking price.

This boat cruises comfortably at 28-mph at 3300 rpm’s with four adults on board.

Features:

Twin 4.3L Vortec V-6 EFI fuel injected engines/Alpha One Gen 2 outdrives with 505 hours, Kohler 5e Generator/285 hours, central air conditioning system, water heater, full galley with microwave, sink, refrigerator, electric stove, head with shower and Vacuflush toilet, hot/cold transom shower, anchor windlass, with original factory anchor, navigation/chartplotter, trim tabs, new VHF radio.

Trailer is included with the sale, a 2017 aluminum, triple axle 15,000 GVWR Boatmaster trailer with six new (2020) Goodyear Endurance tires. Spare tire included. Trailer is valued at over $6500.

All the below work was done either by me or David Wade Marine, Baton Rouge.

Reconditioning done since I purchased in late 2020:

New OEM Mercruiser (made by Dana) driveshaft/yoke/u-joint assemblies in both outdrives.

Complete new Mercury OEM transom assemblies. Transom Assemblies have been in the water once since installed.

While engines were out for new Transom Assemblies, the rear motor mounts were upgraded to the newer style. This means any changes in the future will be less costly.

While engines were out, installed new oil pan gaskets, new valve cover gaskets, new spark plugs (NGK Iridium), plug wires, ignition coils, distributor caps/rotors, new fuel filters, new oil and oil filters. Pulled and inspected exhaust manifolds. Previous owner (he owned for two years) did not know the age, but they are Mercruiser manifolds and are in perfect condition so they were reinstalled with new gaskets. New seals and impellers in drives, new zinc anodes, new Kuuma 6-gallon water heater, new duckbill valves in head, new solenoids on trim pumps, new CO2 detector in cabin, new Standard Horizon VHF with integrated GPS with remote Command mic handset in galley, new condenser fan in refrigerator (works great), new transom shower assembly, new LED bulbs in interior.

Reason for sale - lack of use. I purchased this boat for long-term use which is why I replaced nearly everything in the boat. Family dynamics had a sudden change which eliminates our ability to use this boat for overnighting, the original intent.

(I will remain part of the Sea Ray family since we will keep our 220 cuddy for day trips and plan return to larger boats in about five years.)

This boat stays at my house on a trailer under a covered garage in the Baton Rouge, La area.

These brand new complete OEM Mercruiser Transom Assemblies include new trim rams, all bellows, gimbal bearings, swivel and steering pins, trim sender and limit switches for both engines. These OEM transom assemblies have only a few hours hours of use. The boat has been on a trailer under a covered canopy out of water the rest of the time.

The transom and hull are in perfect condition - no rot and all fiberglass and gel coat is perfect. The hull shines. No dull spots. The pin striping has some rub spots in a few places. The boat had bottom paint when I purchased it. The bottom paint is still in decent condition.

New shift shaft seals and middle drive shaft seals in the outdrives. Outdrives both passed a 45 minute pressure test.

All the corrosion prevention bonding wire connections freshened. New Zinc anodes from Zincs.com.

Upgraded engine room lighting to LED lights all around - there are no dark spots with six lights around the engine room.

New duckbills in the Vacuflush system. The system holds a vacuum for days.

All mounting screws for bilge pumps and other items resealed.

Generator runs perfect and has 285 hours. The previous owner had just completed service on the generator, so I have not done anything to it. I do have a new impeller, anode, and oil filter ready to be installed when the service is due.

New Standard Horizon VHF radio with GPS/DSC with the remote RAM mic for the galley. This system has an integrated GPS and you can use the VHF radio while down below in the galley or berth. Radio MMSI is on file with the USCG with my name and address, so new owner will want to change that.

New refrigerator condenser fan cleaned the area behind the refrigerator and re-installed. Fridge works great.

All Navigation Lights work. Boat has two blue LED accent lights in the deck area.

Added Fireboy CO detector in the cabin and kept the original for redundancy.

Fireboy smoke detector installed in the engine room. New fire extinguisher in the galley and cockpit.

Engine room has factory installed automatic fire suppression system.

The anchor has 300 feet of line.

Seats have no tears, but they do have a few scuffs and scrapes. Vinyl is soft and pliable.

Boat had a first generation Lowrance Hook 7 GPS chart plotter installed in the dash when I bought it. The unit still works great.

OEM through-hull depth sounder functions fine.

The starboard tachometer is erratic but all other gauges and instruments work fine.

New Delrin cabin door roller balls. Cabin door slides good.

All interior bulbs changed to LEDs. Installed a new wiper blade.

Boat cruises at 28mph@3300rpm w/4 adults, 100 gallons of fuel, full (40gal) water, half holding tank.

If you are seriously looking for a 280, you will not be sorry you looked at this boat. You will not find a better one listed. Mechanically this boat is in pristine condition. Cosmetically, the boat is not mint, but looks great with glossy gel coat.

I would enjoy showing this boat to any potential buyer. I welcome and encourage any mechanic or surveyor to come look at my pride and joy.

I have photographs of most of the work in progress I described above. I will be happy to go through them with a potential buyer.

If needed, I can transport the boat by trailer for the new owners a reasonable distance. I am sure we can make some arrangement.

I have a lot of photos available for potential buyers. Email me at DWABoat@yahoo.com for more information.
