Hi, I am look for guidance on how to pull the GPS out and reach the stereo remote to replace it with a fusion remote. I pulled the dash bezel but my arm and hand cannot reach the left top and botton studs and nuts. I tried reaching from the fuse box below the helm. I even tried reaching the auto pilot below the GPS and still can't reach...

Please what's the trick?

Mark

Try removing all of the screws for the fake wood panel it sits in. It will come out as an assembly.

Thanks Ken,

Tried that too. The screws are studs with nuts inside unlike the dash bezel. Can't reach the port side nuts as those are even further than the gps. The gps is a raymarine c90w. Previous owner had it installed professionally. The guy must have had 4 foot rubber arms.....

Mark, I have not done this on your model, so I'm only guessing basing on other boats that I've done. One thing I've never tried, but wondering if it would give you the reach you need is going in through the cupholder. You might be able to get in there just enough that with the right combination of tools/extensions that you can reach the left side of the GPS unit. Also, in your boat, are there any removable panels on the cabin side? Again, just guessing on this, but these would at least be the ways I would try if it was my boat.

But... I pulled a picture off the internet... Can you not reach the stereo remote by removing the large, wide fake-wood panel that is above the steering wheel? Or maybe by removing the trim tab panel? But maybe the picture I pulled is different than your dash?

The gps is a raymarine c90w 2012.

There are no cup holders to pull and no screws on the out side wood panel holding the gps. Only on Guage bezels but I can't reach the far left gps bolts or panel. I can reach and pull them on the right side but that's only half. I have looked inside cabin above rear satee sleeping area. There's a headliner panel but no signs of how it's mounted. I don't want to chance it and destroy the material. Besides it doesn't sound hollow. More like solid glass behind it. I am flat stumped. I have been boating my entire 51 years and know how to do most everything on a boat and its frustrating that this one small thing is kicking my..... I might just need to call the company that installed it for the previous owner. I am sure the rubber man works there......

Seems if someone put different screws in with nuts behind you would need to access from the gauge panel of from the shift levers. There is no access from the cabin; at least on my 400DA which is essentially very similar.

OK, the picture I pulled up (which was an ad for an '01 410DA on Yachtworld) must have been a transition year (or a wrong picture). The way you are describing your dash definitely sounds different than what I was looking at. I know what you mean about being "Stumped" - I've been there a few times, too. It's frustrating because you KNOW that you should be able to figure this out, but you're just not seeing it.

Can you post a picture of your dash and the cabin area?

"IF" for some reason, it turns out you have access from the cabin... As far as "typical" ways to remove panels (cabin), look in seams for screw heads. If it's carpeted, feel along the edge for the buried screw edge. Sometimes, with vinyl, another way things are done is that Sea Ray will staple the vinyl around the perimeter of the panel, with exception of certain areas. In those areas, they face-screw the panel, and then tuck the vinyl over the screw head and into the seam - for those areas, if you feel along the edges, you'll feel the screw head. Then, gently pull the vinyl away to expose the head.

Rubber man... We have a guy working for us that sounds like he might be your guy's brother!

Do this look like you?

Thank you MCM, yes this is my set up. Though no backing plate. I noticed you have the same 410 as I do. So our gps dash is exactly the same.

I am running all 2013/2014 Raymarine, but, I believe if you have the "bucket" shown in the photo, then you need to tease the front bezel off as shown in the photo with the screwdriver and remove the unit from the front.

Sorry if I haven't been clear enough. I am aware of the cover plate and screws. I have done that. I don't have the back plate behind the dash. Just nuts. I cannot reach the nuts. I can unscrew from the gps front panel, but will loose the nuts. So then putting it back how do you hold the nuts if you can't reach them. I guess glue them into place...so there's a peminate thread for the stud...
