Dern! My refrigerator in the cabin quit. The Compressor is gone.

Does anyone with any experience with this problem?

Do I try to rebuild?
Do I replace?

Unit looks to be too large to get out of the door.
Is there a same size replacement?

What a revolting development.

must be going around.. my refrig in the cabin quit a few weeks ago on my 05 320. The power light is on and I hear a slight noise, but it's not cooling at all. I'm going to remove it over the weekend and see what can be done as I don't want to spend $6-700 on a new one!

Go to www.rvcoolingunit.com, (they sell marine ones too) they sell the whole refrigerator rebuild kit all precharged, everything basicly has to be replaced except for the box itself. This is the easiest way to repair the unit (about a 3 hour project) and it has to be done inside the boat as the box does not fit out the door without allot of work. It will cost about $625 + ship, a new unit is about a $1100 for the larger one in the cabin.

i just installed a new Norcold refrigerator in my 2001 340 DA. The door access is to small. The hatch door has to be taken out - easier to buy a new boat. I called Sea Ray and asked them how they could make a boat without thinking about the basics. It took the mechanic 8 hours to install the unit.

The only way to change the fridge out is to totally dismantle the cabin door all the way. Way too much trouble. I replaced just the cooling unit for the fridge and it took about 2 hours from start to finish. I cant remember the part number for the cooling unit, but get in your owners packet and they have a breakdown of the parts in the Norcold owners manual. Google the part number for the cooling unit and find the best price. I think i paid around $500 for mine a year ago. It is very easy to remove the fridge and plenty of room to work on it once you get it out. Pull the unit off the back of the fridge and it just slides right out. reseal with some A/C tape and put it back in. Let me know if you need the part # I can probably find it.

Thank all of you for responding. My mechanic and I have decided to rebuild the unit in the boat. Part #617855 includes the compressor, coil, power supply and plate, etc. Price is $492.48 + freight + labor. Total cost around $900.00. New unit would be $875.00 + freight + a ton of labor to destroy and rebuild the boat.
