I have a 2000 Sea Ray Sundancer 290 with twin engines and a generator. It has three batteries in the boat. When I stay at the beach over night the left engine doesn't have enough battery power to start. Also that same battery powers the windlass so if i use emergency power to start the left engine, while I am using the windlass to pull up the anchor the left engine may die because of low battery power.

I did a little troubleshooting and this is what I found.
Right engine and Generator use two 12 volt 29size batteries.
Left engine and all house power users use 1 12 volt 24size batteries.

Also the boat lives in a slip where the batteries get charged. All batteries are about a year old and i had this problem with the old batteries also.

What do you think i should do to improve this? Add another battery in series for the left engine and house? A bigger battery?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brad

Lots of previous posts on this kind of issue. Simeple fix is to put two new group 29s or 31s in parallel (not series) on the port/house bank. check your charger too. It may be undersized or not working properly. The new ones are better at avoiding battery degradation through sulfation because they have programmed charge cycles. I replaced my house bank with two golf cart batteries for more capacity, but I do not have a genset so I need a bit more capacity. I also upgraded my charger to a new Pronautic 50amp. I am fine for 2 days/nights at anchor with that setup.

I have had the same issue. I have considered flipping the batteries, putting the bank to the left engine/house. I do not know what problems that may cause?
