We have just purchased a 2000 420 AC and enjoying it. We boat out of Midland, ON on Georgian Bay. I have some questions and hope someone can help me out:
1. During a recent cruise the halon system discharge light came on.Engine temps were normal. Inspected engine compartment and no sign of discharge. Placed the helm switch into override and red light still remained on. Has anyone experienced this?
2. Starboard engine oil pressure gauge ( at helm ) is showing almost zero oil pressure , however engine mounted gauge is showing normal pressure. Oil and filters recently changed. Seems to be a faulty sensor.
3. What was Sea Ray thinking when the generator was installed. I went to replace the impeller on my Westerbeke generator and it appears the pump is against the forward bulkhead? There is very little room between the starboard engine and the generator . I am a big guy and there is no way for me to get to it. Is there an access point I am unaware of?

Thank-you,

Welcome B, Very nice boat you just got. I can not help you with your model but misery loves company as many engines have hard to get to parts and impellers. Good luck and some one will post more information that has this model boat. Have a great 4th of July, JC

I'm not sure about your halon system but I think you are on the right track for the oil pressure gauge.

For the generator you are correct! Here is what I did on mine that makes my life MUCH easier -

Open the access hatch that is next to the electrical panel. This is where an A/C is installed and it is on the back side of the engine room wall. Identify the general cross location of that wall with the approximate location of the water pump for the generator. Using a 3" hole drill bit, drill through the wall, then use a sawz-all to enlarge the hole to a rectangular size. You can now access the back side of the generator.

I cut a piece of starboard our to reinstall over the hole that I cut. If I need to change out an impeller, I remove the entire water pump (4 nuts) and replace the impeller from a better location. I then reinstall the waterpump. Without the access panel it was a 2 hour job. With it, I'm down to 20 minutes.
