My Nautical Structures swim platform control panel blows it's 7 amp fuse each time I raise or lower the swim platform. I've gone thru a few fuses getting it back in to proper position. So, I assume I have a short and grabbed my multi-meter and jumped in the engine room... ;-) Of course the NSI control box sits directly aft of the port engine.

I could only imagine how easy it would be to work on that control box if those giant exhaust tubes were out of the way. Grab the screw driver and loosen the hose clamps. Then I wrestle with those things for 25-30 minutes. I didn't have a rubber mallet or a foot long 2x2 (I thought I could knock them a few times and off they would go).

Is there a recommended way to remove those tubes to gain access behind the motor?

I went home to fetch the rubber mallet and a foot of 2x2... But will wait to hear someone's tale of the proper way to remove those tubes.

Thanks in advance!

I've wrestled mine off using lots of WD40 sprayed between the rubber hose and fibreglass tube followed by various sizes of long flat screwdrivers to carefully work the hose off of the tube. Expect to need some band-aids!
