2000 340DA 7.4L impeller change tips

Can someone share how to find missing vanes in the line? Where do they typically end up?

Or can the broken parts find there way out by themselves?

Is there a filter screen at the trans-cooler so broken vane parts cannot enter?

Yes, there is a built perforated filter at the trans cooler inlet side. That is where I found all my parts.

I just saw this. I had a 2000 340. Greg's (taz) was great to follow, but I want to add something. You can remove the wooden support between the engines and fit between them and between the exhaust. The loosen pulley..... I would also add, really pay attention to the impeller hoses, as one is intake no the other is output. Mark well and also on the pump housing. Remove entire pump housing. I used to replace impeller and housing as it was very inexpensive. Good luck, first time takes a while and then it gets easier every year.

I did my 6.2's and its tight. Lots of feeling and not seeing. My 340 has the big water mufflers behind the motors. I was told to remove them and it opens up the area. It's not a fun job but worth not paying someone. It nice if you have an extra set of hands to for tools and to wipe the sweat off your brow.
