I have a 2000 310 Sundancer with 2004 350 mercruisers. I just had a sea ray tech install new plugs and I afterwards had new plug wires installed. The sea ray tech told me my plugs were fouled and needed replacing. This was his solution to my engine not starting. It started and ran pretty good but seemed not to turn full rpm's and was a little sluggesh. I stop to pump out and got a little fuel and it didnt want to start again. I had to give it about half throttle and it finally started. I smell fuel when idling and I see fuel on the top of the water at exhaust. It's seems to be burning or getting too much fuel. Any idea how to solve this problem or where to make adjustments? Thanks for any help anyone can give

Sounds like you may have a few misfiring cylinders. Before you run the engines again, I would check the oil level to be sure the mis or flooding problem is not flooding your crankcase with gas. Be careful here... hard starting, smell of gas is a recipe for engine room explosion!

You may want to get another Tech to come down and look at this one.

stop everything and do a compression check. i had this exact problem with those engines. I don't want to scare you but my situation was very bad.

Sorry, but I have to agree with FireIsland1 on this, do a compresion test!

I'm hoping it's a sensor or fuel regulator or something causing too much fuel flow which is causing the sluggest run and hard starting or flooding the cylinders

Is this issue only on one engine? When was the last time you changed the fuel filters?

I'm assuming that if you have accessive fuel not burning you should see wet plugs when you take them out.

Anyway, if you had to get a tech to do your plugs, it might be wise to call a tech to diagnose the issue.

Good luck.
