2000 215 EC Trim Gauge issues

My 215 EC trim gauge is not working properly. I have a 5L with an Alpha outdrive. The drive will trim up/down, but the needle on the trim gauge is bouncing around and isnt even close to being accurate. The trailer trim also works fine. My trim oil is full and all the connections to the trim motor on board seem to be ok. Anyone have this issue and know the fix?
