Hey Guys,

Well I just got my 190 and I'm having it serviced right now and having the swimplatform installed I got from swimplatforms. I am also having them add a dual battery setup, and I will put in the Die Hard Platinum PM-1 as the deep cycle for the electronics.

Thats about as far as the official Plan goes :smt100

Boat Has Stock Clarion Tape Unit and 2 Stock speakers under the dash.

My idea and I need some help.:huh:

Head Unit: Decent Unit w/Multiple Zone ability, Ipod Connectivity. I plan to add a tower someday, just don't have the $$$ right now to spend another 2k on tower and then on speakers. I would like to be able to turn down towers if necessary without turning down in boat.

Stock Speakers: I would like to replace them with just about the best that I can get my hands on, Ive looked at the Wet Sounds In-boat, and they look nice, just don't know if they are the best.

Additional Speakers: Currently were still in the Indian Ocean, so this is where I need some help. I would like to add a pair of speakers in the bow, in the side pockets, but I don't know what size to buy, or if its a plausible idea.

2nd Additional Speakers. I then would also like to add a 3rd set of speakers in the side pockets between the lounge seat and the captains chairs. Once again, don't know the size and if this is a plausible idea.

Amps: What type of amp do I need to do my project? All suggestions are welcome. Ive looked at the JL 6 channel amp if I ended up doing the 3 pairs of speakers in the boat.

Sub Amp: I have an old JBL 300.1 amp that I used for years in my truck to push 1 10" JL w3v3. THis amp is very reliable and I was wondering if I could use it in the boat. I recently got a new truck and upgrading the sound system in there, so I will have this amp just lying around. Also, where would I put the amps, or where is a safe place for keeping it dry, but having ample air flow.

Subwoofer: Finally, what type of sub would yall recommend, and where could I put it in my boat?

Ive read the help yall gave Shocker45 when he was buying his new boat and soundsystem, but since my 190 is from 2000 it doesn't have too many places already made for speakers besides the 2 stock ones.
I won't be doing the install of the sound system until April, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Guys!

Lot's of questions. i will try to help with at least a few of them...

I replaced the stock Clarion HU in my 1999 210 with another Clarion (M475). I did this so that I could continue to use the wired remote. It has a CENet cable connection that allows the use of an Ipod and you can still control it through the wired remote. There are lots of other options out there but I didn't want to have to replace the wired remote so that limited me to a Clarion HU.

The HU also has a fader so that you can control front and rear speakers or the in-boats and tower speakers. I added a Clarion EQS745 EQ that is mounted by the wired remote so I can also control the fade right from the EQ. It also has the volume, sub gain and all tone settings there as well. I still use the wired remote to turn the system off and on as well as switch through songs on the Ipod or CD. I can also change radio stations (but I never listen to the radio).

The Wetsounds are definitely nice speakers. Some of the best out there. They have 2 different in-boats speakers depending on what you want to spend. The larger speakers are more money and will require a bigger amp (more money again). JL Audio also has nice speakers.

If you plan on adding a tower you may want to go with a less expensive in-boat speakers (Polk Audio DB651's) and put the money toward some nice HLCD speakers on the towers. I have Polk Audio DB651's as in-boats and used to have them as towers speakers. As tower speakers they sound great when beached or floating but can be difficult to hear while wakeboarding. I upgraded to HLCD's and a bigger amp last fall. They now can be heard easily while wakeboarding.

The JL audio amps are great amps. As are the Wetsounds (but pricey). I used a cheaper amp for the in-boats. They still sound great but if I had to do it over again I would probably go with the JL Audio.

I am not going to be much help on where to locate additional speakers in your boat but if there is room any standard 6" (6.5") speaker would work fine. If you are going to add tower speakers I don't think you need to get carried away with adding too many in-boats. I have 4 in-boats, 4 tower speakers and 1 Wetsounds 12" sub and my system is PLENTY loud.

Your old amp should be fine in the boat (as long as it is matched correctly to the sub), just mount it where it is going to stay dry and not get too hot.

The Wetsound 12" sub is nice and only needs like 1 cu foot in a sealed box and something like 1.4 in a ported box. Go ported if you can but the sealed box still sounds nice. It is just a little tighter and doesn't produce as deep of sound. There are also Kicker and other subs that work nice.

My sub is under the steering wheel.

Don't forget about buying quality wire as well. Both power and speaker wire. Look for wire that is tinned for marine use. Also be sure to have plenty of battery to run all this.

Good luck and have fun with it...

Just saw this thread. Any recommendations on good replacement speakers in the $100-$150 range (per pair)? I would like to give my system a boost by replacing the Clarion stock speakers on my 1999 210 BR. There are four in-boat speakers currently hooked to what I think is the stock Clarion HU. Eventually I want to replace the HU with one that has an aux hookup for mp3 players.
