This has happend to me twice this season so far. Both cases I was just starting to come up on plane when the alarm started to go off. Both times I used more throttle than usual because I was in some shallow water and need to pop up on plane quickly. When I made it out into deep water I shut down each engine one at a time to determine which one had the fault. Once I figured out that the Port engine was the trouble maker I started them back up and headed back to my slip. The alarm didn't come back on. I then plugged in my Code reader to find out that there were no faults stored so I don't know what the problem is. I looked in my diagnostic manual and there are are a handfull of conditions that will cause the 2 beeps per 60 seconds. I am thinking that it may be the knock sensor faulting. Anyone else had this alarm going off during heavy loads?

It sounds like low oil in the sterndrive. After checking the lube level I would also review all other 2 beeps p/m related codes (if the issue remains):

The alarm would be constant if the drive lube was low. I was reading through the possible codes and the knock sensor fault caught my eye. Maybe when the engine is loaded up the knock sensor is picking something up.

What kind of code reader do you have and where does it plug in?

This might be the cause...I had the same issue....its not the load on the engine... once I reached 3000 rpm the alarm would go off, shut the engine off and everything was fine -I could run the boat all day as long as I stayed under 3000 rpm. The problem was the shift indicator on the shift transfer plate that is located mounted on the exhaust manifold. It is not a neutral safety switch or a shift interrupter switch-it tells the ECM what gear the drive is in -so if the switch is out of adjustment or broken the ECM thinks your in neutral and when you reach 3000 RPM the alarm goes off -

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the idle air control valve had failed. Initially it showed no other symptoms apart from the beep, but eventually it wouldn't run at idle, it would just stall.

As far as I know the IACs failure makes the beeping regardless of RPMs. This seems to be different symptoms from what OP observes.

Sorry for this reply (because it won't help) but I had the same problem with my 2001 280 which did not have the Smartcraft system and after taking it to THREE different dealers (all Mercruiser or SeaRay certified) and spending about $500 with each one, NO ONE could fix it!! I finally cut the wire to the alarm and took my chances. Then I sold the boat and got a 2004 340 WITH Smartcraft. Now all I do is look for that wonderful message "All systems normal" and it's all good.

That's a great fix...

We had another thread a little while ago where a MM couldn't fix CO detectors issue and was pushing for the owner to trade up and upgrade to a different boat by adding $10K.

For the record I was told:
1)It was IAC (I replaced it) and no fix)
2)It was a loose fitting 24-25 pin connector for the engine wires going to the helm (cleaned, WD40, wiggled...came back one week later)
3)This is the best one..."It was radio interference going through the spark plug wires..." Needless to say I didn't believe that one
