I am looking at a 1999 28 Sun Sport and the aft seat is strait. It is molded into the engine cover, goes port to starbord. The cover lifts up electronicaly. All the other 1999's have a u shaped seat, not strait. I thought it may be a twin screw vs. a single screw. But they all have the u shaped seat, except this one. Was this an option from Sea Ray?

That's not the answer. Both are Sun Sports . The one with the straight bench has the fishing layout which is nothing more than a straight bench and two rod holders. Other than that both versions are identical. (I have the fishing layout on my 280).

Steve,
If memory serves me right there was 3 different layout for the SS, correct???

You can still download the promotional brochures and parts catalog for the Sun Sport on the Sea Ray website.

In 1999 there were three models:

280CC (Cuddy Cabin) - this is the boat with the straight bench seat in the rear and has mainly boot stripe graphics only.

280SS (Sun Sport) - this is the boat with the curved rear seat and has the hull stripe graphics.

280SS AE (Anniversary Edition Sun Sport) - this boat has the curved rear bench, colored hull, thru hull exhaust, anniversary badges, and the arch which became standard in 2000. If you can find an AE, it will generally have most options that were available for the Sun Sport.

What confuses things a bit is that dealers and owners applied the SS graphic package to some of the 280CC's.

That must have been up through 1999. My 2000 has all factory 280 SS graphics and documentation. For 2000, the straight bench was part of a package. There were 3 different seating layouts, the bench or u-seat and then either back to back lounger and extra wide captains bench or twin buckets.

You are correct. In 2000, the 280CC was rolled into the SS line as the 280SS with rear bench.
