I've been reading various comments on how others had removed their lounge cushion. Some accessed through the aft ceiling and others muscled off the cushion. Would anyone know how to access the screws so that I can remove the Lounge cushion for repair? If not, I'm going to have to pry it off like some others but I'm not sure if their are screws or bolts. Photo of Cushion to remove. Thanks Guys

Thanks, I wish it was that simple.

I'm pretty sure the fasteners are in the ceiling of the mid cabin, behind the headliner... Might be better off prying it off, cutting off the old fasteners and finding a new way to attach it. I wish I could remove it for cleaning anyway.

Your talking about the bottom or the backrest? I never tried to remove the backrest, but pulled the bottom out all the time to clean - a couple of strips of Velcro is all that held it. Really no changes to the 290 from 1999 - 2001.

Not the back rest, there are a couple bolts holding those in place. Those aren't the problem.
The bottom seat cushion does not budge! If it was Velcro'd it would have come out. I've tried pulling on it hard and nothing.
I really don't want to take all the aft panelings off as its like a freakin puzzle. I'm going to try to pry it out tomorrow.

Maybe a call to SeaRay, but I am certain that on my 2000 290 it was just Velcro, it was heavy duty and held it on tighter than you might think, but a little leverage on the corners and it would come out. A dock mate had a 2001 290 that was exactly the same. I wouldn't think they did it different in 1999, I even think the 1998 had the same lounge seat (it was a different cabin layout). Let's hope someone didn't have a bright idea and glue it in.

I had to pry off the lounge cushion. Did not want to mess with ceiling. It was hard but it was hard but it worked. .

It was held on by 7 3" stainless steel screws that could only be accessed in the aft cabins ceiling. There was also a ton of silicone. I don't understand why Sea Ray would make this impossible to access. We used three crow bars, one was fairly flat so we were able to squeeze it between the cushion and fiberglass. We also used a thin sheet of wood to slip in between the cushion and fiber glass.
I was able to remove the panel directly underneath the port side backrest and the one directly behind the forward backrest. There were 9 bolts holding the forward backrest cushion. I was able to remove 8 but had to cut the 9th with a sawsall. This bolt was on the upper right corner, it's cut off in this picture.

I would us Velcro when it goes back in.

NO. Put it back the same way for the next guy. You have to get some enjoyment out of the frustration!!!

Seriously, I would shy away from Velcro in favor of whatever it's called that holds the smart tag to my windshield. both sides are plastic and the stuff seems bullet proof.

Cruel!

I can't say for sure mine was velcro, it was a velcro like fastener, pretty heavy duty. Obviously that was an improvement between 1999 and 2000.

Not sure how mine wasn't Velcro'd. The cushion tags said 98 so they probably started velcro'ing in 1999. Unlucky I guess.

I have a 98 250DA, similar to the 240. Mine is velcro held.

I have a 2001 290 and my lounge section looks exactly like yours but I cannot figure out how to remove the backrest cushion closest to the cabin? I also don't know how to get the carpeted panel that is behind this backrest in the mid stateroom to see whether it is attached via bolts or Velcro. Any pointers you can give me how to remove that one backrest section?

Hi Steve, I just saw this. So, for the backrest on the lounge seat it was tricky. Mine was secured with bolts and screws. The only way to get to it was in the aft cabin area. In the aft cabin area mine had a panel behind this backrest. In order for me to remove the panel I had to find multiple hidden screws along the bottom edges. That meant for me to pull some of the vinyl upholstery or poke a small hole. Here is a picture of one of the screws.
Once I removed this I was able to get to the bolts. There were 3 bolts I could not get to. Those were the ones towards the cabin door. I was able to loosen them but then had to use a saw to cut the bolts.

Unfortunately, I don't have a photo with it off. I think it frustrated me so much I didn't bother.

Hi, I have a 99 290DA with the same problem except it's the stern backrest that came loose after someone stepped on it. I need to know how to remove and reattach it. Same for the starboard backrest.
