1998 Sea Ray 215 Express Cruiser

We wound up purchasing the boat for $7000. We are happy with it and needs a good clean and buff.

Very good, you won’t go wrong with that money. Congrats and enjoy.
Now like I tell everyone, fill out you profile location and boat so when you ask questions we know how to answer.

Thank you very much. We are happy and have been going over the boat inside and out seeing what little things it needs and giving it a good scrubbing.

What is a good seat cleaner? There are couple of spots with mildew that won't come off with soapy water.

What is a good gel coat polish/sealant for inside and outside of the boat? Easily to use by hand on the inside portions.

There is a small chip in the gel coat by the rubrail, dime size or less. I know it should be covered and epoxied and painted, etc. It's so small and above the water line that I would like to just fill it and be done. I was reading about 3m 5000 and Marine Tex. Would one be better then the other to use?

Cuddy door is hard to open and close of course. I've already cleaned, wiped, flushed the track out and tried silicon spray. It made it a touch easier but not as it should be. Also the silocon spray comes out of the tracks and on the floor. What else should I try instead of the silicon spray?

Caulking around outside window is starting to come off. Which caulk should be used to recaulk the windows and anything inside the boat?

Thanks for all the help and I'll be continuing to reach and spend time on the forums.

I ordered some Marine 31 Mildew Stain Remover which I am going to try. Just "DON'T" use household products like Soft Scrub, you'll destroy the vinyl. Also, if you feel the need to use bleach, do not get it on the threads it'll chew them up. I believe I have some Mcguires vinyl cleaner and protectant which works okay, but takes some elbow grease if you have deep mildew stains, which I did on the tops of the coaming bolsters.

The polish I've used is Mcguires Premium Flagship wax as well as their Cleaner Wax and had good results. However, when I got my Weekender, it was a little dull, I had used a polisher and wool bonnets to brighten her up. There are a ton of threads on here in regards to polishing.

If it is a chip just in the gel coat, you can order the correct matching color for your boat. I believe the gel coat company is Spectrum. My color Sea Ray is Ash Pearl. I do this all the time for dings and small repairs. When done properly (requires some sanding), you will never know it was there. I actually enjoy it because it almost instant results. If it's an actual hole, I would use an epoxy like West Systems six10 and fill it, then dremel it down below the gel coat and then fill with gel coat that I mentioned above.

I haven't run into this yet but I clean the tracks as best that I can and then use PB Blaster 'Dry Lube" Teflon spray. IMO you don't want any greasy or oily residue that can attract more dirt.

Not an expert on the caulking because I believe some here have removed the windshield and replaced the whole gasket and other have used some sort of caulk. You'll have to do a search or maybe ask the question in the General forum.

Hope this helps.

If you are still looking to confirm hours, I can tell you I have the same boat and same gauges (also no hourmeter).

The way to confirm them is to have an engineer plug in a scanner (assuming you have an efi or mpi engine). Mine is an early efi. The engine will report the exact hours using this method.

I was surprised that mine were only 340.

best regards

Eddie

Mine is carbed but I read a special scanner can read the thunderbolt ignition module to find out hours. Problem is finding someone with that scanner
