There are a lot of threads on fridge replacement. I was not able to find one for getting the fridge out/in on a 1998 40 Dancer. I am helping a friend with the same boat as I take his out this weekend. If someone could point me to the thread, or give me the low down on how to get that thing out of the cabin. I'd be very greatful.
Thanks.

Have you seen my thread about my "refrigerator nightmare"? Everyone I've spoken to says that the 561 will not get through the companionway door intact.

I chose to have the cooling unit replaced, but even then (4-5 years ago?), I was hearing rumors that production of replacement cooling units for the 561 was about to cease. I don't know the status of that today.

I didn't see that thread. I believe he's looking at a different brand as replacement. Mine was replaced by the PO, and I believe it's the Norcold DE-0061.

If trashing it, get what parts you may want as spares and then get a BFH to bring it down to size. I know on a 330, the door has to be removed.

Here's my thread, if you're interested: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.ph...or-Nightmare?highlight=refrigerator+nightmare

My neighbor has a 61 in his 400DA. If yours has a vent bezel with the temp knob above the freezer, I'm with you - I bet that it's a DE-0061.

It's considerably smaller inside than the 561, but obviously fits through the doorway. I've seen other brands in 400DA's as well, but I don't know what models. The one that stands out has a rough-textured black front panel. I don't know what it is, but it's "aesthetically challenged" IMO.

That's very helpful. Thank you! I do have the vent and control knob above the freezer. It fits well and the cherry panels on front match perfectly. When I was on line looking at 40's I did see some "aesthetically challenged" installs for sure.
Thanks again.

Any update on the removal and install process? How difficult to install?

He decided to go the difficult route and disassemble the cabinet and remove it to get the fridge out. That's in process.

That's is a much tougher process...is the new frig larger? Please take a few shots of the disassembly process if your are there...its only a matter of time until mine finally dies.

He decided to go with the 9.0 cu foot fridge with the freezer on the bottom. It's 1/2 inch bigger than the old one. He will send me pics. He recruited some more qualified help. I'm more of the BFH type. The old one is almost out. The new one will not go in until spring.

If your friend refrig has a working powerpack, I could use it (if he is interested in selling it). Mine stopped working on 12v but still runs on 110v. Other option to get my 12v operation back is to install an inverter.

I believe it was the compressor that puked. I'll check with him and PM you with his number.

i had to remove cabin door, remove doors on fridge, i taped up the fridge so i wouldnt scratch the interior and slid her out, fairly easy job, good luck
