We purchased a 1998 330 sundancer and I want to do some rewiring for the stereo and so on but with the interior panels being all vinyl I would like to know how these are removable. Especially behind the helm. I would like to change the chartplotter and remote for the stereo and add some equipment but need to wire from behind the control panel and up the side of the boat. I would appreciate any help to make my job a little bit easier to access all the wiring.
Thanks in advance gman

Screws are hidden in the creases of the soft goods. Spread the folds and creases and you'll find the phillips head screws. Remove and replace the screws carefully so you don't tear the material.

Pay attention to how stuff comes apart. Photos and labels are good. Drop fasteners and small parts into clearly labeled envelopes. Once you have a bunch of pieces in your hand, it's not immediately obvious how to reassemble the interior.

Best regards,
Frank

As far as replacing your plotter, you can access it from the breaker box below the helm. Take the "glove box" out and its a stretch but you can get ahold of the fasteners holding the plotter on.

As far as running wire, if your boat is like my 340, I took out the little locker box next to the helm seat and ran wire back to the ER and into the cabin from that point.

Glove box?

Ok I knew I would take a hit for saying glove box.......what do you call the area that holds the breakers for the instrument panel?????

:smt043Thats where I thought you meant in the first place since you said it was a far reach.... I would call it the breaker panel, but hey what do I know!!!

Actually, we call it the Dash Door under the helm, in laymen factory terms in the newer models. A breaker panel (dash door) under the helm, and another inside is referred to as the 110 panel.

Older models would be known as an 'access panel/plate'.

Some would be kinda thrown off if you called it the breaker panel, since those are on the inside of the boat at the 110 panel. We knew what you were referring too... :)))

Thanks alot everyone for the help. Gonna give it a go next weekend. There are lots of things i would like to do to this vessel to bring her back to where i think she should be as far as i can tell she was a little bit abused and not well taken care. So I will touch base time to time of you guys don't mind. Thanks again

The starboard side storage areas in the mid cabin have panels with screws you can remove to get some access. Same thing in the closet just outside the midcabin. The dash console is above that area but access is not that great. I used an electricians fish (I think that is what its called) to push through and pull back wiring. A 13yr old son with skinny arms comes in handy too.

I just unscrew the dash switch panel and pull it forward ,gives me plenty of access...

I have a 97 that is in need of a buncha electronics too! this thread will have saved me a ton of time because access to these things is horrible. I don't know why they couldn't engineer a panel below or something. final question though, the vinyl cover just below the electronics extends into the aft cabin. Are there screws there too? or just in the headcover to main cabin area. Anyone who has removed this panel before please chime in as I am in uncharted waters here.

Been thinking about this ..you can pull all the interior panels you want,it won't get you access to the back of the dash. The hull liner comes all the way up behind the dash...pull the switch panel as I mentioned you'll see what I mean.Frank may want to chime in on this too.

You are right there is no "direct" acess, but the wiring harnesses in plastic looms go through a bulkhead and there is space to sneak wire inside the spaces. Again, I used an electricians flexible metal wire fish to run wire from the bow (installed new spot light) back through there and up to the dash. Also ran wire to speakers back further under the storage box in the gunwale to starboard of the helm seat. Again its not like there is a conduit tube to use. It takes some fishing and fiddling because of the path for the wire (up down and around conduits and bulkheads).

I do recomment you fish a strong nylon cord along with any new wires and leave it there so you can pull new wire later if needed.

I had to run a few wires there also,I found removing the starboard speaker gave access to that plastic conduit.Like you said ..... always snake an extra wire for future work.
