Anyone an expert on wierd battery discharge problems...?
One (not always the same one!) of my starboard batteries will go completely flat after a few days without the charger on. Seems its discharging into the others somehow. Also, if I disconnect any two batteries, the remaining battery will sound the engine warning buzzer of either motor if I turn the ignition on. I disconnected the AC charger leads and it stops.. so even though the charger outputs are supposed to be isolated they seem to be shorted together.
But before I complain to the charger manufacturer (I replaced it less than a year ago!), has anyone got a diagram of the alternators/charging system for the twin 4.3L installation? - I want to be double sure there is nothing wrong there. In my manuals the altenators are missing from the wiring diagrams. Does the boat have a diode pack for split charging of the starboard batteries?
To add to my confusion there is a second set of cables from the port engine battery... I've the main cable, the AC charger cable and then another... plus a second -ve cable on this battery too.. which just dissapears into the wiring loom... where do these go?
