Hello everyone! Newbie here, I am in the process of purchasing a 1996 40ft sedan and have a few questions. I figured you guys will talk straight and have better info than the dealer is willing to offer. My questions are as follows: The boat has twin 2006 7.4 mpi's, what is the burn rate per hour with this power in this boat? And is there any problems with this boat that I need to pay special attention to? I have a survey scheduled for next week and don't want any surprises. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!!!!

I have not run this boat with gassers, just the cummins and cats (after which there was no comparison, cummins won hands down in this one). However, my previous boat was a 38' bridge boat with 8.1 mercs. She was a huge pig to dock, if there was any wind I had to simply guess, use LOTS of throttle and then buff out the scratches. Not to mention my speed was 18 knots, I did not own the boat long enough to figure out my fuel burn. My .02

Your fuel burn rate will be about 30 gph @ 19mph at 3400 rpm. I know of two people that have owned the same boat since new and they say they have had no real problems worth mentioning.

Hope this helps.

This is a great boat, but be aware that with 7.4 gassers, she will be way, way underpowered. What that means in practicality is that you will go slow and burn a lot of fuel. That is not necessarilly bad as long as: a) you know and accept that going in; and b) you pay a heavily discounted price for the boat.

Some will say "bad resale value" which is true to a point, but if you don't pay too much for the boat up front, you will not get any more burned than the rest of us on depreciation. She's already 13 years old, so the depreciation curve should be relatively flat.

One last thing, how many hours and how do you intend to use the boat?

.......The boat has twin 2006 7.4 mpi's, .......!!!!!!

I don't think 7.4 MPI's were available anymore in 2006.....were these motors rebuilt or just taken from another boat used and put in this boat?

From what the paperwork says they were replaced with 2 new crate motors that are 2006 mpi's. I will look into it further though. I am getting the boat for 78k with 215hrs on the motors and the only thing it needs is compound and wax, one seat redone, and bottom paint. So I think it is a good buy, even with gas engines.
