While underway I have a stream of hot water exiting a small carpeted compartment at the far starboard side of the captain's bench. This is best seen from folding down the back of the rear facing bench and looking forward under the captain's seat. Can anyone explain what is behind the wall of the compartment? How is this feature accessed for service and what is the likely cause?

Probably (if your boat is equipped) the line to the heater defroster core is leaking.

Or the heater core itself, especially of the engine is raw water cooled.

You can bypass it on the starboard engine.Get a 18"length of 5/8 heater hose (cut to length needed)disconnect the two lines to the heater core at the engine.Fit your bypass, and you will be in business.I'm not sure how to access the heater core itself.
