454 Mercruiser Bravo One Drive
Hello everyone. I have a question about my 1995 220 br. It has a 454 with bravo one. The boat seems to list hard to which ever way I turn the wheel in a sharp turn. It is worse if the boat has a full load of people in it. It feels unstable to me in a sharp turn. I slow down but it feels like it is laying on its side. Could the boat roll over in a turn? I dont think that it would at sensible speeds but I may be wrong. The hull seems like it has alot of spray at the stern. This is my first bigger vessel. I have had 16 and 18 foot boats (the biggest was an 18' br with a 4.3/alpha one). I know Im in a completely different class with the 220 so maybe it is just me being overly cautious. Im thinking just the weight of the boat, engine and drive account for the spray as Im used to seeing little spray from a little boat. Any 95 220 owners wanna weigh in on this?

Well let's not get crazy. 1st, a 220BR is not a big vessel.
I had a '95 220OV and a '99 230OV. Essentially the same boat. They are the same hull as the BR sister.

2nd, having the boat lean into a turn is normal for all boats, it just may feel a little exagerated to you now because of the little bit of freeboard you may have more of now than your 16-18'ers.

see the next reply(under my old screen name signature) for a picture of the spray.........

While. I never had my 240 in the water I have ran 3 others. I grew up on an Arro Glass 165. Swear that boat would lean so hard you could rinse the side glass by making a hard turn. I owned a 71 16ft glastron trihull. She would turn wide and not lean much. My dad has a 3 year old Alumicraft 165. 8ft beam believe it or not. She skipps sideways like a muscle car sliding around a turn. I think the heavy glass v hull will dig in and lean. While a light boat will skip along.

I have the same boat, well, a '94, but with a 5.7/Alpha. I noticed the same thing in mine, and was kind of freaked out, I've always had 16-18' 4.3L boats which were a lot of fun to drive. A 22' is not that big a boat, but I know what you mean, it's a LOT more boat than a 17' runabout. Most of the "lean" is because of the steep dead-rise in the hull (20.5 degrees I think). When you throw a heavy, deep "V" boat into a turn, it will actually start to plane on one side of the "V".
