454 Mercruisers with v drives
No Generator
I purchased a 1995 330 Sundancer in April 2023. 7.4 mercruisers with V drives. No generator. There are two batteries under back of helm seat, one battery in engine compartment. I am assuming that the battery in engine compartment is house battery only, and each battery under seat compartment is for each engine (starting batteries?)

Also plan on changing the pro mariner 30 charger with a pronautic 1230P?

The Pronautic is a great charger. Many of us have upgraded to their current line of chargers, myself included.

Do you have a battery switch of any kind (1, 2, both, off)? The best way to figure out what your batteries do is to switch them off and see what works, what doesn't.

Have two switches (On/Off) selector on each, don't think they are labeled, but have to look closer. I'll have to look how there're wired to the switches from which batteries. Thank you for the Pronautic feedback.

The two under the seat are the house batteries and probably the port engine. Turn off the port side battery switch and check if that engine won’t start and the 12 v lights in the cabin are off (or just look at the battery voltage on the breaker panel).

pronautic 1230 is a great replacement. I went with a 1240 because I have put a dual 6v golf cart deep cycle bank in the engine room and wired them as the house bank along with the port engine. The starboard engine now uses the under seat batteries.

That's a good path to start. I remember the surveyor saying that the port engine and house battery were tied together, so the two batteries under the seat. So the one in engine compartment next to starboard engine must be just the for starboard engine? Thank you for the feedback!

I think I had it wrong in my post. I fixed my post. Under seat is port and house. On my boat I reversed it. The bilge is now port and house.

Okay, thank you.

I verified that the 1995 330 (no generator) under seat batteries is port and house. Bilge is starboard engine. Thanks for previous info.
