I just purchaced a 1995 30 sundancer with inboards. While on cruise i find the exhaust to sound like i have straight through exhaust. At idle or at the dock it is not bad but after a 3 hour cruise my head hurts.:smt021 Are there baffles that can go inline of the side exhaust ports or any way to dampen this sound a little?

I see new searay 30s all the time and they are soooo quite.

Any help or info on this would be great.

thanks
Jason

Something is definitely wrong. After a few seconds of running your mufflers should fill with water and then the underwater exhausts kick in at idle. Is there good waterflow coming out of the side exhaust ports? If not shut off motors immediately and start looking for the issue. I would check your seacocks to make sure they are opened and your raw water impellers immediately before you overheat an engine.

New 300's have stern drives so you will not hear the exhaust on the side of the boat. Was the boat land transported to you? If so maybe they closed your seacocks for the trip?

It is pumping water fine and is quite at idle but at cruise it is on the loud side. no over heating of any kind and i did replace the impeller on one motor but it made no difference on water flow. It is loud when first started and as stated it does get quiter as it fills the mufflers.
