I have been lurking this board for a long time, there are very knowledgeable people here so I ask this question.

I am looking to trade my 1966 Mustang Fastback for this Sea Ray. It has Mercruiser Alpha I Generation 2 outdrives.
If I go through with the trade what should I look for? What goes bad when not used? This would be in addition to a survey, I had a surveyor recommend I by a boat once and it needed fixing every time I used it.

Just because you had a bad surveyor in the past does not mean they are not a valuable source of info. I would start by asking the members of this board for a surveyor recommendation in your area.

I have this same boat and I love it. Let me know after the survey if you have any questions. It is quick fuel efficient, rides nice, can go out by yourself in it. The one thing I didn't like was the swimplatform was too small so I got an extended swimplatform at www.swimplatforms.com. what a difference. I would change all the bellows and boots and water impellers in the drive and water pumps on the engine. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the advise. I guess I need to find a book and a good place to buy parts.

I have found the least expensive and very knowledgeable people at www.Amarket.com they sell GLM replacement merc. parts at a very good price compared to the dealer. I would start there. 30% less than my local guy for the same stuff. Check belts batteries as well as the obvious, changing oil and plugs, cap, maybe wires etc. don;t forget fluids and tighten all hoses to be sure. If the manifolds and risers are old you may want to look into that as well. Costly now but at least you have a good starting point to move forward. when boats sit it will dry rubber etc. sometimes worse than using them. Good luck
