I just bought a 1991 350 express cruiser. Previous owner didn't use any of the electronics. I have no owners manuals. It has a raymarine radar that says no signal the bottom half which is GPS seems to work. The boat has a loran which doesn't power up and another thing that says radar that doesn't seem to power up. Just curious if this stuff would be worth tracing and fixing or is it all out dated. If anyone has links to manuals I'd appreciate it. Or knowledge of how these things work.

Stuart,

Welcome to CSR!

Generally speaking those electronics are 27 years old so it comes down to how much time you want to invest in them.

If you could post a couple of pictures of the electronics....I’m sure we could help you at least run diagnostics on them.

LORAN C was shut down a few years ago as GPS became more available. Homeland Security is pushing funding to bring it back and there may be some availability in the next year or two. Your receiver might work, but it is really too early to know until there more information. I would not bet on it however. It is time for an upgrade if you want modern convenience and reliability.

I'm guessing it's old and obsolescent, but if it's labeled Raymarine, it's likely not original to the boat. Gear installed between 1991 and 2000 is more likely to carry the Raytheon brand.

Manuals are readily available online. GPS plotters (multi-function displays) have come a long way in just the past few years in terms of feature, performance and price-point. You can get a lot for relatively little, but replacing radar can quickly get expensive.

Not sure these will post but this is what's on my boat.

Welcome to CSR!

Lots of post on here about this subject.

As for your current setup. Likely your radar scanner is defunct. They are not repairable as factory service, and are not compatible with newer MFD's. If its an open array, You might get some $$ for it on ebay as parts. The Pathfinder display unit is likely worth a good chunk of change on ebay, especially in good working order, and your looks to be pretty good.

I had similar setup, and tore it out and sold it piece meal and had enough to cover the cost of a refurbished generation old 12" MFD. That got me into modern equipment with a reasonable upgrade path to the Axioms over time.
