Boat currently has just one large, custom fitted carpet that makes it very difficult to access the engine compartment / bilge as the 3 floor access hatches are covered and it is quite difficult to remove the carpeting for access. I either would like to buy a template to cut and surge the current carpet into manageable pieces or buy new, multi-piece carpeting for ease of removal and access below decks.

Can anyone assist?

Thank You!

If you're happy with your carpet, are you thinking of making the piece directly above the engine hatches a separate piece (or maybe 3 pieces)? I did that on my 260DA... I used masking tape to mark where I wanted it cut and had the edges bound by a local upholsterer. I just felt through the carpet for the "crack" between the pieces and laid out the tape and had the guy cut down the center of the tape.

You'll likely need to install some snaps in key areas to keep the newly cut edges from becoming tripping hazzards. Instead of regular snaps that screw into the deck (which is fine), google for YKK SNAD snaps.

If you'd rather get new carpet, go to a place like Corinthian Marine or Snap In Carpets and get their template kit.

Thank You for the reply, especially the info on the YKK Snan snaps! Those snaps are a fantastic idea and I will be purchasing a bunch as soon as numbers needed are known. Will definitely use / cut my current carpet, as it is fairly new - just need to figure out the pieces configuration, based on my hatches location.

Thanks Again,

Craig
