Hi everyone; I just wanted to introduce myself and thank you for collectively contributing to this great resource.

My grandfather purchased a 1989 390 Express in the early 90s and he would frequently take us out on Long Beach harbor; he passed away about 5 years ago and the boat sat idle for a time. Recently the family decided to put some work into it and get it back into shape and last year four of us took the US Powerboating Basic Powerboat Operation class from the local junior college sailing/seamanship program. We had such a great time (and have had so much fun since) that we are are trying to schedule the next the inshore and night operation class (my goal is to feel comfortable going out to Catalina Island for the weekend and back).

Interior wise, we replaced the carpets and headliner and reupholstered the port seating and starboard berth. Now I'm doing research (on here and elsewhere) on what we can do to upgrade the sound system (it seems I need to learn about amplifiers if we hope to have more than 4 speakers, but where to put it!) and I'm sure other projects may come up (what's with this 13" crt tv?).

Anyway, thanks again for this community. I look forward to researching and reading your posts. Cheers!

Welcome to the forum. My '89 340 had a 13" TV with VHS tape player built in.

I lived and boated in Long Beach for many years. My old boat partner owns a couple of restaurants in Long Beach. Have you been to Schooner or Later or Tantalum?

When you get a chance be sure and post some pictures.

Thanks so much, Shawn. I put in a picture below from when one of those photographer helicopters came overhead last year, as well as some whales we saw last weekend for the heck of it. Unfortunately I've never been to any of those restaurants because, while the boat is berthed in Long Beach, I live next to Newport harbor. (As an aside, though I grew up learning to waterski on the delta, I had no idea until now that it extended all the way to Elk Grove until now!)

Welcome, those are great boats, as you can see we used to have one. We used the rear seat cabinet for 3 sub woofers. The women loved sitting there. Glad you are bringing it back to life.

Great boat and very easy to work on so much room

Welcome to the forum! Nice boat!

I have 4 speakers and subwoofer in the cockpit, the same in the cabin.

If you need ideas for refurbishing your 390 you may want to follow Al's and my threads:

Thank you so much for these links; I have literally spent hours today reading and am not yet done! What a pair of incredible restorations. And some of your creativity too; totally blew me away how you replaced the TV and used the bamboo rug!

Haha; I bet! Do you happen to have any pictures? (Of the subs, not the women!)

Thank you!

Sorry, no pics, each sub was mounted in its own box. I did not cut any holes in the seat assembly.

She looks great. Thanks for the pics. Tantalum is in the Marina Pacifica mall thingy and has guest dock space. There is a 60' long bar that looks out at the sunsets.

Schooner or Later has been around for quite a while and was featured on the Food Channel's Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. It is also dockside but easier to get a dinghy in than 40'. Great place for breakfast or lunch. http://www.schoonerorlater.com/ The owner, Denny Lund is a very close friend and at Schooner or later almost every weekend morning. I highly recommend it for an incredible breakfast. If you go ask for Denny and tell him Shawn Murphy recommended the place. BTW Denny is also a boater and owns a 29' Chris Craft Corsair and a 30-somthing center console Donzi.

Elk grove does not go into the Delta but you can get to Sacramento from the Delta via the Sacramento River.
