My recently purchased 1989 300WE is in storage and while on board getting familiar with things I noticed what seems like an excessive amount of play when I turned the wheel. Of course I couldn't observe the rudders while doing this so I'm going strictly on feel. I would say the looseness is in the rack and pinion assembly at the wheel. This is a single cable system. Can anyone provide any information on who manufactured this system and if there are any adjustments that can be made? Doing a little Googling, it seems likely it would be a Teleflex.

I took some pictures and added them to my album:

The wheel moves about 3-1/2 turns lock to lock. With the rudders centered, there's about 30 degrees of movement at the wheel before the rudders move. I can push the tiller arm end of the cable in and out about 1/8" without moving the wheel. Maybe that's as good as it gets, but it seems like too much to me.

Not sure if that's normal. At the very least though, I'd be replacing the rusted screws/brackets on the rudder posts.
