Boat Info
1989 Sea Ray 230 Cuddy Cabin, 7.4 (454) V8
Engines
7.4 454 Mercruiser w/Bravo Drive
This is my first post and my first boat, please forgive me if the information I'm asking for is located somewhere on the form.

I just acquired a 1989 230 CC with a 7.4 (454) with a Bravo outdrive.

Things I know about the boat
  • It has been in storage for the past (5) years
  • Winterized before storage
  • It was fully serviced 5-6 years ago
  • Stored inside a heated barn
My questions
  • What maintenance should be done before reinstating it?
  • Any known issues/concerns with this model?
  • Where can I find an owner's manual?
Any guidance or input is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I would check all of the fluids, top the batteries off, and look at the outdrive boot/rubber for dry rot.

The Sea Ray website has some of the older manuals, but not yours... look under owners/resources.

Take it to the water and enjoy!

Best of luck and welcome to CSR!

I am a new owner and member of Club Sea Ray as well. I purchased a 1991 230 CC 7.4 with a Brava outdrive very recently, so pretty much similar to yours. So far, I've found very limited documents/manuals on our exact model, and actually very little discussion on the 230 CC specifically. Found only one website that has the original manufacturer's brochure for sale. Reading "Commanding the Waterways -- The Story of Sea Ray" written in 2008, and hardly any discussion of the 230 CC. Cheers, and let's keep in touch!

Drain all the gas. Clean gas tank. Check for leaks.

Drain/refill all lubricants.

Change water impeller in drive.

New spark plugs, wires, distributer, coil.

Remove and rebuild carburetor.

New battery and cables.

Replace risers and manifolds after you determine if you have good compression.

Reset timing.

Run it.
