It looks like I am going to be the proud owner of a 1988 268 Weekender. The boat took a good survey in 2010 and has been at the marina I work at ever since. We have done some service on it and it seems to run well and after poking (with a pick) around in the bilge, there does not appear to be any moisture issues.

It will come out of the water this week and have a compression test done.

I read the review by Pascoe and though the deck being held up by the windows is somewhat disconcerting, I don't foresee my wife and I being on it enough to mess up the windows.

The boat has about 600 hours on a 330HP big block with the Alpha (mismatch but I don't beat on my boats so should be OK).

I am getting it for 5000.00 and it includes a newer dual axle Eagle trailer.

I think as long as the compression is good I will be getting a good deal. The interior of the cabin looks like it has never been used.

I will be upgrading from a 83 22.5 Express Cruiser and am looking forward to having the extra cabin space.

Anything I should specifically be looking for before I pull the trigger?

Thanks,

Dan

Well, how did the tests go? Did you buy the boat?

Still in the process, we are in the middle of haul out season here in Michigan and getting anything done for a non-paying customer (me) goes to the back burner. I hope to have it out of the water in the next couple days, poke around on the outside of the transom, have one of our mechanics do a compression test, and get the deal done. From all the research I have done, the price is right and I need the extra cabin space.

Finally was able to get a compression test done today. Not good according to the mechanics. Compression ranged from 110 to 145. Plugs indicated that the 454 has been running lean for sometime. The engine will need to come out and be disassembled to determine the reason for the low compression. I really want this boat and I am sure he would prefer not to pay for winterizing and winter storage. I think I am going to offer 3500.00 and if accepted will continue forward.

I bought the boat for 4300.00 and it, along with the 225, will be coming out of the water soon. Didn't really be want to be the owner of 2 boats but stuff happens. I will sell the 225 in the spring. Very happy to have a better floating cabin for Lake St. Clair in the spring!
