I/O merc. 130hp (I think?)
I need to replace the alternator belt on an 88 Seville. I can't find the tensioner to loosen the pulleys. Can anyone assist? Thanks.

Try loosening the alternator bracket. When done, you'll have to "do the dance" of pulling the alt out with a lever with one hand, and tightening the bolts with the other.

But I would still need to get the belt in front of it off. There are two belts on the front of the engine.

The belt in front is the power steering belt. You can do it 2 ways. Loosen the power steering pump and remove that belt too. May as well replace it while its off and keep the old as a spare.

Or slide the alternator belt into the power steering pulley and bump the motor over a few times and the belt will wedge itself on or off depending on if your putting it on or taking it off.

Which one is the power steering pump. I'm really new to this and have not done anything myself but change the brakes on my car and an ignition coil pack! Lol. Thanks for all your help.

the power steering pump is the one with the cap on top and fluid inside
the alternator is an electrical component ....no fluid

Make sure the 2 bolts on the left side are tight, remove the 2 bolts shown , remove the spacer block, install 2 new engine belts tying one out of the way , reinstall PS belt.

I'll try this tomorrow, it's my day off. I'll loosen the bolts. Where is the spacer block? It's my understanding that when the spacer block is removed the belts should be fairly easy to replace. ( easy for me to say, as I've never done any of this before). I just don't want to end up more screwed up thank I am now! Lol

Do I need a jack to hold the engine? And the photo says to remove the bock with a press. I only have hand tools.

No, when you remove those bolts the engine stays. just slip the spacer block away and change the belts. There is a "view only" site for the manuals. i`ll look for it. Your
either 10 or 13. A large file but I find it loads best with google,

So I moved the alternator and power steering pump by loosening the brackets. Got the belt repaired. Moved the alternator and power steering pump back and tightened both down. Fired up the engine and all looks good. Splash later in the week. Thanks to everybody for all the help.
